Gaara of the Desert - Immense Power

N-295

Review Date: 02.09.08

Average Card Rating

Constructed: 3.75
Limited: 3.75

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.
1 being the worst.
3 = average.
5 is the highest rating.

Beastly Mage

Gaara [Immense Power]

Gaara... What can I say about this version? For starters he's great in Sand-Oriented decks. This version allows you to look for one of his signature Jutsus from the top five cards on the top of your deck when he's sent out to battle. That's pretty good in my book. After that, put the card in your hand (after showing it to your opponent) and shuffle your deck. Too bad it isn't valid. Still, I'd run it if I ran a Sand deck.

Ratings:

Limited: 3/5
Constructed: 5/5 (in his own deck)
Art: 5/5 Just because he's got the cool outfit

Alucard of the Abyss

Today we get to the last card of the week and it's a card that I think has potential in a deck based around it. Today we get to Gaara [Immese Power].

As usual, his stats. This time Gaara is a turn 4 with a solid 5/2 stats (zomg, a Gaara with support) and injured stats of 4/0. He's a Genin still and has Sand combat attribute like all other Gaara made so far. His effect is what's interesting. When he's sent out to battle you can search for a Jutsu card with "Requirements: Sand Combat Attribute" in the top 5 cards of your deck and add it to your hand. The set this came out of also brought us some awesome new Jutsu that Gaara has as his disposal being a turn 4. Currently, I don't think a deck based around Gaara and his Jutsu can make it to top tier, but if Bandai does the smart thing and take care of Gaara [Tragic Name] then we may very well see this Gaara and his deck make an appearance. Unfortunately, he isn't searchable by The 9th Match so that limits his playability a little compared to the turn 2 Gaara and running a lot of Jutsu dedicated to Gaara means less Jutsu you will have playable by your regular Ninjas. With these flaws Gaara decks just don't have what it takes to top a tournament higher than a Chunin at this time.

For combos there is really just using his Jutsu. Sand Tsunami is especially nasty as is Sand Tomb. Giant Sand Burial also has potential but isn't as good as the first two. There is also using Ninja Academy to get him out as early as turn 2 but that also means running Earth in a deck that should be Wind dedicated.

In Limited you would generally choose him first for his solid stats. His effect isn't as useful unless you also pull some of his Jutsu so you will mainly be using him for his stats.

The art on this card is amazing. It looks really good in Diamond foil and has one of the best artwork so far on a Gaara card.

Constructed: 3.5/5 (can't give it any higher rating as it still lacks what it takes to make it to the top)
Limited: 4/5 (his stats are good in this format)
Art: 5/5 (great card art)

MeGaMaRiK

Welcome to Friday, February 8th's Naruto Card of the Day!

Today's card is Gaara of the Desert [Immense Power]. This guy has a strong effect, just like almost all the other Gaaras. However, he's turn 4, unlike his other counterparts. His effect is strictly for Gaara decks only, searching the top 5 cards for one of his jutsu. Now if you do the math, you will most likely find at least 1 of those jutsu in the top 5. 5/2 healthy and 4/0 injured stats; not too shabby.

Short and sweet today, however this Gaara is only good in his deck, not in any wind deck.

Constructed: 3/5
Limited: 4/5
Wyatt Gaara of the Desert(Immense Power). We review today one of the new turn 4 Gaaras, and this one just might prove useful in a Sand deck. He is now a turn 4 ninja with 5/2,4/0 stats. Not bad for a turn 4, although he is still Genin, which hurts in most respects, since he cannot play any of the big rank jutsus. This is made up for somewhat by the release of several Sand jutsus that require sand combat attribute + an entrance cost of 4 or more, although he can't use the ones that require an entrance cost of 5 or more(only Possessed mode and Shukaku can use those), these new ones are actually quite good. Add to that the fact that this version searches the top 5 cards of your deck for a Sand combat attribute jutsu when he is sent out to battle. These new Gaaras are powerful, but don't quite fit into decks not focused around them(Sand, or Genin rush[Naruto Vs. Sasuke anyone?]).

Constructed:3/5(Still a genin, and an effect that basically requires the deck to be based around him, in a Sand deck, 4.5/5)
Limited:3.5/5(Good stats, and plenty of jutsus for him in this set make him a decent choice here, but not a first pick)
Mark Howard Gaaara of the Desert [Immense Power]

YYYYYAAAAAAAAYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite Ninja!....... Has been killed.

You see, the first thing you may notice is how the new Gaara is not turn Four.

On turn two, he had 4/0. This was awesome. This was godly. I usually am still using him by the end of the game. However, a 5/2 on turn four is AVERAGE. AVERAGE, I SAY! AVERAGE!!!!!!!!!! Would Gaara, the host of Shukaku, the One-Tailed Beast, be AVERAGE!!!!?????? NO!!!!!!!!!!!

1/5 For ALL new Gaara cards, and also because they come out two turns later. WHICH ES MUY MALO!

And the picture sucks! Who CARES what the effect is!? It's bad, too!
