Ranmaru
[Glowing Eyes]

#N-623

Review Date: Oct. 7, 2009

Average Card Rating

Constructed: 2.50
Limited: 2.75

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.
1 being the worst.
3 = average.
5 is the highest rating.

Beastly Mage

Ranmaru

Today's card is a new version of Raiga's sidekick, Ranmaru. The effect's a good one. When you battle Ninjas that are turn 3 or less they must use their printed values when you calculate Team Power. That means that, for example, if you're using Kiba and Akamaru and the both have 2/2 because of Akamaru's effect, when they battle Ranmaru's team they only have 3 Team Power (since even growth gets canceled temporarily). This Ranmaru's a good support Ninja, plus he's got Ambush. This is good for constructed, and even Limited. Try it and see.

Ratings:

Limited: 2/5
Constructed: 3.5/5

N. Jolly
N-623 Ranmaru [Glowing Eyes]

N. here, always looking out for the little guy...it's kinda what I have to do, being short and all...

Today's card is another reworking of a filler card, Ranmaru. Let's check out his new stats though:

T0 HC0 Water
Male/Kurosuki Family/Ambush/Mental Power: 1
0/2 0/0 CA: Genjutsu

Now these really aren't good stats for a T0, as you'll generally want to be attacking on this turn, or at least holding back your opponent's attacks. Ambush is kind of nice, as it allows you to play Hiding or AOUR without losing an early game drop, which is always good. Mental Power: 1 seems kind of tack'd on, but it does help a bit. And as for Kursosuki Family, it's kind of not useful anymore. The old school Raiga deck isn't really viable anymore, so it's kind of just a qualifier to run Karashi. But now it's time to check out his effect:

[Glowing Eyes]

During the Showdown, in the calculation of the Team Power, every ninja with an Entrance cost of 3 or less Battling against this Ninja's Team use only the printed value regardless of any other in-play effects.

That's kind of neat, as it stops Naruto [COP], Choji [SOTP] and in a very true sense, Sasuke [BTL], but it's really not good enough right now. We have better T0s for every element that fit this turn way better. I'd even rather run the original Ranmaru in a Raiga deck, as he'll help speed it out and protect it.

Constructed: 1/5 Just not worth using
Limited: 1.5/5 A little better, as it's good to snag T0s in this format

StormVyper Zera Ranmaru [Glowing Eyes]

There's been a couple of ninja in this set with an effect similiar to this (2 of which are Water), and I can't really see the purpose behind them. Aside from Shadow Clone Jutsu and now Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu, there aren't too many early cards/effects that I can think of that'd make you want to play this kid. His stats have been buffed from the 0/1~0/1 he was before as well as the addition of Ambush, but I just don't see a reason for this guy right now.

Limited: 3/5
Constructed: 2/5

Another day, another card and GO SEE MY EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW NOW!!!....or when the link is posted. >.>;;;

Ranmaru! Finally a remake I can agree with in this set! With Ambush and Shikamaru stats, gotta like the T0, things are looking good already! Now the effect! Canceling out your opponent's boosting for ninjas with an EC of 3 or less. Interesting to say the least. With cards like Rock Lee~Loopy Fist, Lunchbox and Growth, this provides a nice defense against decks who do some early game boosting. While there isn't much of boosting nowadays, the Genjutsu is what intrigues me the most. I, frankly, wanna try and make a Tempo/Genjutsu deck with this guy in it just to see how it'll hold up.

On the other hand, most tempo water decks won't use this guy so much unless it's strictly Kurosuki. Good stats and a decent effect. Give him a try and see how he works for you.

Limited: 4/5
Constructed: 3/5
Art: ...So bland, I can't comment >.> /5

Also ... Got another vid up with my own EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW! Woooo!
