N-624 Manda [Offerings]

Is that a snake in your scroll, or are you just happy to see me?...oh, it's a snake...I thought so...no one is ever happy to see me...

Today's card is a new version of Manda, and he's about a hundred times better than the old one, which isn't really saying a lot right now. Let's look at his stats, shall we: Sound, Snake, 9/0 6/0 on T7 with HC1. That's pretty powerful for the late game, and I think a turn earlier than his last form. He makes up for this with a reduced injured value, but being a snake, he can be brought out by Summoning Jutsu from Coils of the Snake. He's a fun card, and I've heard of some people teching him in the new 10k build that seems to be picking up steam. But let's see his effect first before deciding anything.

At the end of your turn, you must select and remove one injured status ninja from the game. If you cannot, remove the top two cards of your deck from play.

Valid: This ninja cannot be removed from play by the effects of your opponent's jutsu cards.

This first effect isn't bad right now, as it allows you to kill off your opponent's injured ninjas, but also requires you to kill off your ninja if they are injured as well. It's kind of like an angry Might Guy just randomly swinging at the injured, only cooler. His second effect gives him a measure of protection from the removal jutsu that are flying around, but won't stop reactives or other such cards that manage to change the rules and such.

Manda has always been a heavy hitter, but his biggest flaw is how late he comes out. A pretty decent amount of games don't even make it to T7, so he's not going to show up a lot unless you deck around him, which is a difficult task to do. He's not a bad card, but he's too hard to fit into a deck without tailoring it to him, which is a bad plan in this game.

Constructed:2/5 (3.5/5 in a snake deck) just too late to matter
Limited:3/5 He has a better chance here as there aren't as many game breaking cards here.
Art:You may ask three questions of the great snake, and it will answer.../5

StormVyper Zera Manda [Offerings]

Manda is probably one of my favorite characters in the Naruto world for combining 2 of my favorite things in the world: snakes and the color combination of Purple & Black. As for his effect, it's a definite step up from his previous version (who was awful, mind you). Like most summons, he's sporting some pretty high power and his effect allows him to really cash in on the easy OVs he can score. Let him swing and if you score an OV, you can kill 2 ninja: the head ninja and one of the Support ninja behind him due to his effect. True to his nature though, he doesn't too much care for terms like friends and enemies; as long there is a ninja to devour, they're fair game irregardless of their affiliations. And if you don't give him a sacrifice, he'll start cannibalizing your own deck. He's not enough to make the Snake deck work, but he's definately a step in the right direction.

Another day, another card and today's card--ARGH! SNAKE! A SNAKE!! SNAAAAKE! A SNAAAAKE! OHHHH IT'S A SNAAAAAAKE!!!

It's a badger, badger, badger, badger, badger--*SLAP*....Sorry...

Well, right off the bat we can tell this Manda is better than his SR counterpart from so long ago, so it's nice to see such an unexpected remake get a nice effect(s). Protection from removal jutsus is always nice and while his effect is quite the double-edged sword, potentially, it's still nice to remove any ninjas your opponent has while you have the chance. Plus, it opens to some combos.

Of course, turn 7 is a bit of a problem, but more often than not, he'll be put in play by Summoning Jutsu more than by deployment. Snake Wave decks will use this Manda no problem, but as for other Water decks, there's some better late game to come out sooner.

Limited: 2/5
Constructed: 3/5
Fun deck: 4/5
Art: From this angle his head looks like a horny toad! /5
