Beastly Mage

Tsunade

Today's card is a new Super Rare from Will of Fire. This version of Tsunade allows you to redirect an opponent's Jutsu to her. How? Any Jutsu that targets one of your Ninjas will be directed instead to her. Although this effect isn't valid, it's still good when you take into consideration the valid effect: when one of your opponent's Jutsus target her, you can discard two Wind Chakras to bounce that Jutsu back to the hand after negating it. If you keep her healthy, she can be doing this all the time, or make your opponent think twice about using a Jutsu. In Limited, she could be good. In constructed, even though she can't heal any Ninjas with her effect, she could be good too, particularly in Block. Try it and see!

Ah Tsunade. This is one of the supers in the set I really can’t decide if I like or not. I pulled one from my box and I haven’t decided if I want to use it or not just yet. Let’s take a look and see what we got.

It’s got above average Tsunade stats. 2 support and injures to 5 instead of the usual 4. It doesn’t heal my ninja. Hm…that’s one of the biggest reasons EoM Tsunade is used. Although this one has an interesting effect. Any of their jutsu with target “1 ninja” have to target her. She can then pay 2 wind chakra to negate their jutsu that is targeting her and move it to their hand. TO their hand…Ugh. That’s where it fails. If I’m paying 2 chakra to negate a jutsu, I want to get it out of their access, not just have them be able to drop it on me again right after the chain resolves. Given yes, it can disrupt a chain, but they can still play the jutsu again. It should not cost two chakra for such a specific effect. It has to not only target her, but you have to pitch the 2 chakra to just put it back in their hand. Heck, her grandfather gets the ability to pitch 2 chakra and remove the jutsu from game. Why can’t she get the same as well? At the very least, she should negate and send it to chakra. I’d consider this card better maybe if it only cost 1 wind, or cost two colorless. At 2 wind, I think the effect is too pricey for what it does.

For the time being, at least. Now, since Bandai has said removal will get more expensive in the future, I could see this Tsunade being more active in the meta. For right now though, I’ll stick with EoM and hold on to this one in my binder for when it might be more useful.

Limited: 4/5 Beatsticks are nifty.
Block: 2.5/5
Unlimited: 2/5
Art: Look at her right arm. See that line below her shoulder? IT’S EFFING WEIRD.
