Review | JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Vols. 1–3

No, you may not call me Joey.

By Jeff Boman · June 24, 2004 | I first read about this series in the American Shonen Jump: it's a Japanese take on the American idea of superheroes. Don't mistake it for a kid's show like many of the comics of the 1970s, though—this series is violent, sometimes gory and full of adult language (more so in the second and third volumes; it feels as if both try to outdo each other in this).

The original story came from manga, so I can't fault the anime for glaring holes in the story logic. Mind you, the third disc says this is a prequel, so I'm not so sure that excuse still applies... [More]

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (PS2)

The gang at X-Play has suddenly discovered it’s attending the same school of witchcraft and wizardry as the famous (and very profitable) Harry Potter. Fancy that! In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, you’ll guide Harry and his friends through magic classes, extracurricular activities, and harrowing situations involving creepy creatures known as Dementors. It doesn’t quite deliver all the excitement of the movie, but it does deliver all the excitement of an unremarkable but enjoyable adventure game. [More]

And, for you Scully Fans Out There....
The X-Files: Resist or Serve [PS2]

Both Mulder and Scully are playable characters from the start; it's quite interesting seeing their respective views on the same event, and we would be lying if we said that it doesn't stay true to its source material. The ever so familiar theme tune is used at every possible opportunity, voice acting is supplied by the actors from the series, the likenesses in the cut-scenes are spot on, and the plot has been referred to as a 'lost episode'. There are also some DVD style extras, including character profiles and numerous FMV clips. [More]
