Upper Deck Entertainment Releases

SpongeBob SquarePants Trading Card Game

Carlsbad, Calif. (April 7, 2003) – Fans of the top-rated television show for kids 6 to 11, SpongeBob SquarePants, now have a new way to soak up all the fun with Upper Deck Entertainment’s April release of the new SpongeBob SquarePants Trading Card Game.

In the show, a square yellow sea sponge named SpongeBob SquarePants lives deep down in the underwater village of Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob lives in a pineapple and loves his job as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab, where he makes the tastiest undersea treat in Bikini Bottom – the Krabby!

In Upper Deck Entertainment’s zany SpongeBob SquarePants Trading Card Game, opponents attempt to convince the denizens of the deep that there is nothing finer than a delicious Krabby Patty!  SpongeBob’s boss, Mr. Krabs, is having a Deep Sea Duel to see who can convince the most people to eat Krabby, and the winner gets a lifetime supply.  Players assemble a team that will “katch” the attention of diners in various locations.  The player who “katches” the most Krabby Patty diners wins the game.

Playing cards have three distinct functions:

The SpongeBob SquarePants Trading Card Game “Deep Sea Duel” starter decks (SRP: $10.99-$11.99) contain 30 Common cards and one Rare card.

Players who purchase the “Deep Sea Duel” starter deck also will receive a bonus “Aquatic Amigos” booster pack, which players use to customize their deck. “Aquatic Amigos” cards require a player attempting to “katch” a location card to get help from a specific character. Related Strategy cards are included. The complete set contains 60 Common cards (8:1).  Insert cards include 20 Rare cards (1:1); 10 Super Rare (1:4); 10 Ultra Rare (1:12).
