Forewarning: I typed this up late at night, half awake so it may be a little screwy compared to my usual reviews. You've been warned.

Eon Crush
Strike
Type: Melee
Cost: 1/0/0
Stats: 2/2
Effect: Red --> +2 intercept or +2 force
Flavor: Len's furyoku is the only limit to Bason's might.

Welcome one and all to our second in what I again assume is a week of cards with nice potential but unique and some times harsh downsides. Today we look at a card thats seen alot of play in my area, but one I've never been a fan of myself. Have I been too harsh on this card? Well I've never really did deep analysis of it before so this will be a learning experience for me as well.

Pros:
- Cheap Cost
- Potentially huge blocker or massive finisher

Cons:
- Extremely expensive effect
- Poor base stats
- Melee trait shaman only

Overview: I've never debated the potential or raw power of eon crush, for a handful of red furyoku you can launch some really huge attacks at your opponent, 4 can return an opponent attack with an 8 force for instance. However as most experience players know red can be a very hard furyoku to come by, most attacks are returned from the green or yellow zone and the only time your going to be focusing in your red zone is when your taking a hit, something you can only afford to do twice and something you almost never want to do if you can help it. There are ways around this problem, Purity of Mind is a common way every deck has access to, and since your playing Melee anyway if your running eon crush it would be a good idea to run Honing Blades. Melee in general also happens to be one of the best strike types at getting deep into your opponents zones anyway. All in all the cost may seem steep but if you build your deck right you can get around it.

Deeper Analysis: But is it worth it? Well first off keep in mind the card is a 2/2 on its own and only costs a green, a 2 is almost never going to stop anything but it means most of the time your not going to contribute more then 1 to 2 of your red toward intercept (unlike say nergals roar with its 1 intercept). From there it depends on your situation in the game. If you only need one more point to win its time to burn out all of that red, with 3 more you get an attack of 8, thats blockable but not easily. For 4 you get a 10, thats pretty much unblockable short of a smoldering confidence or some weird defense boosting combo. For only 2 more red its still a respectable 6 but really are you going to pay on average 3-4 red just to send a 6 at your opponent? No, basically this card really is best saved for a finisher as no matter how you use it your going to have to pretty much burn yourself out to make it worth while. Of course if your playing duncan or len you already have finishers in nergals roar and Ultra Calvary Charge. Although less versatile with its intercept UCC will usually be cheaper for that nearly impossible 10 force, and nergals roar doesn't require nearly the deck dedication to pull off. So which decks should actually run this? That leaves Yoh and Matti, Matti's signature moves are free so she doesn't really worry about red costs there so I guess she could use it if she so chose and Yoh has double medium, which among other things provides 2 free red, and he also has access to the big key of why if I was going to run eon crush it would be in a yoh deck, Faust boneyard sorcerer.

Combos/Uses: Faust makes this card insane, for those who don't know his effect is that you may pay red costs with yellow instead. Can you say HOLY CRAP. Its almost like Faust was made just for eon crush, not that faust doesn't have other uses but his partnership with eon crush is comparable with a homicidal man selling his soul to the dark lord for for acess to 100 dollar nukes. Sure if he doesn't have 100 bucks he's still screwed but what homicidal man doesn't have a couple hundred lying around... ok this analogy is just getting weird. The point is honing blades is nice, purity of mind is ok, but if you really want to make eon crush worth it play him in a deck with multiple faust. The combo is so good you can actually use eon crush when it won't be a finisher and still not completely burn yourself out.

Final Statical Breakdown:
Non Faust-Accessible Constructed: 2.5/5 (usually too expensive, decent but takes alot of effort, while your busy saving for that big hit your taking hits)
Faust-Accessible Constructed: 3.9/5 (its still expensive but its potential is through the roof, be afraid, very afraid)
Sealed: 2/5 (While still potentially a nice finisher you might end up with a deck full of red costs and then this isn't even going to be useful as a finisher... in general I'd stay away in this format but thats just me)

Foreword

Hey everyone and welcome the half way point in this week of reviews. I come to you very happy since my flu is officially gone. That means I can get back into the full swing of things! Look for my article next Monday on Defensive Decks.

Today we are going to take a look at a card that is welluhherrmread on

Card Advantages

Okay so we are reviewing Eon Crush. A rare card that has a very, very, very costly effect. Now I have racked my brain trying to come up with something to put here in the card advantages part of my review. Sadly, I cannot think of anything besides the fact that this effect can be used multiple times. (Even then this is not very good) So you can have a seemingly infinite intercept and force, almost. The truth is that paying any more than 1 red is to much for one card. The fact that this card only costs one green to cast initially is okay I suppose. But that in itself with this card is to much. (You know its bad when I say that a one green furyoku cost is to much.) Ya

Pros

Can be used multiple times.

Cheap casting cost.

Card Disadvantages

Okay I promise to be nice here. So I will just say that this card is bad. I just cannot see anything good about Eon Crush. You are paying multiple red furyoku to simply get an average force and intercept with this card. That is terrible. You never want to pay multiple red furyoku for any one card unless it offers some major advantage. With this you get nothing. In fact it will cost you AT LEAST two red furyoku in order to block any real attack. And even then six force will not score you any points in most cases. Early game this card is going to be focused immediately. Mid game you are not going to want to play it because it can cripple you. Late game it will bust you.

Next up Eon Crush is rare. Ehmno response. It is also franchised which is no surprise. (It just gets worse.) So basically you are left with a very hard to get card with no real uses. I suppose that if you are REALLY desperate you could use this as a last ditch effort block. But chances are that once youve used it you will be in big trouble.

Cons

Bad effect.

To costly.

Is a rare.

Is franchised.

Summary

Need I even write this? Chances are that this is probably the worst card in Reincarnation. It has no use whatsoever. I cannot see what the reason might be to have made this card. (Besides filler.) If Im missing something, someone, anyone, anywhere, tell me! Because as it stands this is just garbage.

Usually the name of the card reflects the picture. Today, I just don't see the connection. But let's take a look at another talked about card from the base set.

Eon Crush's trait is Melee so it's limited to the shamans of Matti, Yoh, Len, and Duncan. It's base playing cost is 1 green. But you only get 2 intercept and 2 force. It those can't beat much in this game, and way under the Opening attack. It's effect brings this card back up to level with the price of one red furyoku to increase intercept OR force by 2. It's not both. One or the other per red furyoku. So most likely you are going to pay a red just to make it a 4-2 card (Intercept-force). That's costs alot just for that intercept of 4. But you can use the effect more than once.

You could pay another red furyoku and get a 6-2 card. That would stop most of what your opponent would send at you. But you are just sending back a 2 force, hardly much. So let's say you pay 2 more red furyoku to send a 6 force. Now you have a 6-6 strike. I hope you have been watching how many furyoku has been wasted. 4 reds and a green. You would lose most of your red furyoku with that strike. Want to use up your red furyoku? Try playing "Ultra Cavalry Charge," Len's spectergram which costs 4 red furyoku.

Now this card become more playable when you have "Faust VIII" in play. His teamwork effect is that you can pay red furyoku costs with yellow furyoku. Paying red furyoku with yellow makes this card more playable as you could have more yellows than reds. It's a good combo to set up with this card if you plan to use it.

UDE knew something like this card could be abused easily if they didn't make the starting intercept and force low. It's rarity of being a rare card gives it value, but I don't think you want to waste alot of red furyoku. I feel safer behind more solid intercept-force stats. In sealed you don't have the red furyoku to waste. I'll give it an average grade, just in case I am missing something wonderful about this card that would rank it higher.
