Howdy all! Today's mini is the mighty Basilisk War. It is from the new Bounty Hunter Set and is my personal favorite huge from the set.

Here are its stats:
Cost: 51
Hit Points: 100
Defense: 18
Attack: +10
Damage: 30

Special Abilities:
Flight This character ignores enemy characters, low obstacles, and pits when moving.
Mounted Weapon Only allies with Mounted Weapon or adjacent allies with Gunner can combine fire with this character.
Speed 10 Can move up to 10 squares and attack, or double that number without attacking.
Strafe Attack As this character moves, it can attack each enemy whose space it enters; this turn, this character cannot attack any enemy twice and cannot move directly back into a space it has just left.

Now this piece is mean! The ability to Strafe fire 20 squares and do 30 damage to every character in your path is just awesome. (A great Bacara counter, Sev's will die in one hit.) The first thing that comes to my mind with this character is pairing it with Mandalore. You now have a Strafing beast with Momentum (Mandalore's Commander Effect). When you are strafe firing your targets you count as adjacent. That allows our already devastating 30 damage to become a whopping 40 and the +10 attack, (which is so-so, +10 won't hit the bigger guys...) turns to a +14. That allows this Mando'a Droid to be able to hit bigger things and do great damage while doing it.

There are many problems with this piece however. The 100 hp is a little low for a mini this size and cost and the 18 attack is good, except for the fact that you are flying this guy into the center of your opponents troops. Also the fact that this is a huge makes it hard to get a perfect strafe off.
While this piece gives off a great amount of damage, it will take it too.

100: (1) Huge + 100 = doesn't work. Do not try it.
150: (2.5) While you can get Mandalore in here, it is a lot of points for the combo. I would rather not use the two here.
200: (3.5) Mandalore + Basilisk = a mean (fun) squad. While it may not be the best, if you could get that strafe off, it may be worth it.

Basilisk War Droid
Mandalorian
Cost: 51
HP: 100
DEF: 18
ATK: +10
DAM: 30

Flight; Mounted Weapon; Speed 10; Strafe

Today's Huge figure is the biggest droid NOT to be a droid. That's right, the War Droid is not a droid, but that is a good thing as it can get the CE's of Mandalore and the Mandalorian commander, granting both momentum and Mobile attack.

The stats for the war droid are adequate, but end up lacking a bit. The 100 HP is okay, but can get chewed up in today's meta-game pretty quickly. THE 18 DEF is good for a non-Jedi. The +10 ATK is not real great, but with momentum, which you will almost always use, its a +14 - not too bad. The 30 DAM is expected for a 50 pt piece with average everything else, but again momentum will make it 40 DAM.

The abilities of the War Droid provide some pretty cool tricks. Flight means that it can move around pretty easily across maps. Mounted weapon kinda hurts it as you are stuck with the base attack, but strafe and speed 10 means that you can strafe 20 squares across the board. Combined with momentum, that is 40 DAM a pop across a huge chunk of the board. The down side is that you do this once, maybe twice, and then this piece dies quickly because ever piece will be trying to take it down fast.

Yesterday there was a strong correlation between the new piece and an old piece. Today's piece is similar to the AT-ST, but 3 points less. The basilisk has -20HP, +4 DEF, +2 ATK, -10 DAM. It has flight and doesn't have rigid, but it also does not have DR10 or double attack. Both have/can have mobile, and the AT-ST also has grenades 20. In my opinion the basilisk is over costed for a one trick pony. It should be a mid 40s piece.

100pts: Not good here. IF it gets on a restrictive map, Yes it can squeeze, but it cant bring enough help or do enough damage to be competitive here. For fun perhaps, but even then it just goes down too quickly.

150pts: Here it can be played. Its strafe and speed 10 will help make it so it can hit anyone almost anywhere. Another nifty trick with strafers is that if you strafe a piece hand can legally stop while not having moved more than 10 (or base movement), you can then attack normally, thus giving it an effective double attack. The problem is that the only pieces that are going to get that close are Jedi, and you don't want them that close or your Basilisk is used parts.

200pts: Here you have room for lots of help, but in the end he goes down even faster here than the other formats because of the synergy other teams start to gain.

Mandalorians are a fun faction, but they all just end up costing a bit more than what they are actually worth, and perform as such.
