Noghri Commando
Faction: Empire
Cost: 23
HP: 60
Def: 17
Att: +8
Dam: 20
SA:
Melee
Double Attack
Stealth
Cunning Attack
Poison +10
Today we have a major upgrade from
the original Noghri. Stat wise he looks ok for
23 points. 60 HP is solid, as is the 17
defence. Attack is at a minimum +8 and the 20
dam is basic as well. Cunning attack, however,
willl pump up that offence, as will poision +10.
So now we're looking at +12 for 30-40 damage on an
unactivated opponent. Stand still and you get to
do it twice. The Commando also has stealth, so
immediately you should be thinking Nyna. This
guy really needs superstealth to work because,
unfortunately, he's melee. Consider Thrawn as
well for a +3/+3, (nearly) guaranteed initiative,
and the swap, and the Noghri becomes pretty deadly.
Between superstealth and a 20 defence, he can be a
bit of a pain to take out before he gets to put some
hurt on.
Really, if you're playing Empire
superstealth, you're going to have to decide which
is better: the Noghri Commando or the Storm
commando. Both have SS with Nyna. The
noghri has slightly better damage output and attack,
20 more HP, and the same defence. However, the
Storm Commando has range on his side where the
Noghri doesn't. The SC is also 6 points
cheaper (17) and has door control to boot (satchel
charge.) When it comes down to it, the SC will
usually be the better candidate. The only big
advantage the noghri has is that he in an uncommon,
while the SC is a rare, making him fairly difficult
to get.
100pts 2/5: I think he's a
little too pricy here to work. You're relying
heavily on initiative which you have little control
over in this format. If you run Nyna it might
work, but it's a little iffy to me.
150/200pts 3/5: With Nyna and Thrawn, he's
pretty solid. The melee attack really kills
him here though, as typically you'll get
to double attack one time before loosing 23 points.
If he does his share of damage before that happens
then you're probably doing ok, but realistically
you're almost always better off running Storm
Commandos instead.
