doc Today we’re looking at one of the central figures for the Rogues, Pluck.

For me, this was probably the first card I got that instantly said “Build a deck around me!”. For a cost 2 and threshold 2 you get an amazingly powerful ability (undoubtedly some will call it “broken”) which breaks down as this:

During your turn, deplete him, pay 5 and take any non-tactic card from your opponents discard pile and PUT IT INTO PLAY UNDER YOUR CONTROL. Can I get a “Booya!”? Not in your hand, directly into play.

The only thing you have to watch out for are cards that have a cost that effects the card in some way. Since you’re not paying the cost you won’t get that effect. For example, Thief Doyen has the additional cost of discarding a character or item to determine his strength and life. Without paying that cost, his stats stay as printed on the card 0/0/3. And whenever a character’s life = 0, he’s dead. On the other hand, cards that have the effect “when this card comes into play…” still work just fine.

I’ve already spoken about Rogues and their sub-theme of discard, but check out this combo: Heist Planner + Pluck. Heist Planner allows to you search your opponents deck for 3 different cards and instructs you to put them in his discard pile. You see what I’m getting at here don’t you?

Even in sealed Open Beta tournaments, if you get Pluck, you’re at least splashing Deception. Even if you have no significant discard ability, you’ll be biding your time for the mid-to-late game. As soon as targets start mounting in your opponents discard pile, Pluck is ready to begin grifting!

Pluck is crazy goodness on a silver platter. I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot about Pluck decks as soon as the full release is out in November.

Steve "Zambo" Zamborsky Pluck

Wow. Pluck is expensive and can only be used on your turn, but sometimes his Grift ability just may be worth it. Think of all of the cards you can put directly into the discard pile from Rogue effects like Pillaging Pirate, Defenestrate, Card Counter or Tremor Engine. Load up your opponent’s discard pile with cards, then go to town playing the ones that best work for you! Talk about some Deception going on! Even better, lay down a Heist Planner, look for the three best cards (i.e., most expensive) to stack in your opponent’s discard, then go to town with Pluck.

I don’t think Pluck is as good in limited as in constructed (due to the nature of his combo-riffic ability), but he still has his uses. Instead of using those resources to draw your own cards, use ‘em instead to bring back characters you’ve already taken out, except now they’re on your side.

Today we are reviewing my favorite card in the game, Pluck. Can you beleive this is the first RARE I ever pulled at my first event? I had no idea what was good, had not seen a spoiler yet, and then it hit me in the face...... wow this guy is really cool. Ive been a Rogue player since my first pack lol.

To be frank this card is fantastic, I run two of them, and beleive me they are a big part of my deck, I run 4 Hiest Planner, 4 Defencestrate, Pirates, Scrags.... arcanist discard...... basically anything to get a nice fat grave going, then I just res your biggest baddest guy and run you over with it. NOW thats what I call fun.

Pluck only cost 2 so youll be able to get him on the field with no problem at all, and for the same cost as a catastrophic betrayal you can start using your opponents cards against them. I love stealing my enemies Jaques Traps, and setting up mad protection, or Ashes of Zenobia anyone? How about a couple of Dragon Tanks? Ive even taken my opponents Pluck, with catastrophic betrayal and then used his ability 3 turns in a row lol.

Yeah Pluck is the man.

PROS:
1. Low cost.
2. Low threshold.
3. Gamebreaking effect.
4. Even if you dont have enough for his effect hes still a cheap drop.
5. Hes a pimp, just look at him..... LOOK AT HIM!

CONS:
1. His stats are not very impressive.
2. I wish his effect cost 4 lol.
3. Hes a unique so your only gonna be able to drop one.

RATING:
Draft: 4.5 / 5
Sealed 4 / 5 ( he won me my first)
Constructed 6 / 5. lol Hes my fave I had to.
