doc Today we visit the subject of a “quick errata” following the release of the First Edition part 2 spoiler. The common Gearsmith character 4p7 31f (Apt Elf).

This 3 cost 2 threshold character isn’t a 633fy 31f, but he can do some tricks. With the stats 2/2/3, he just another low cost, low powered piece of fodder. Well that might be a bit harsh, but 2/2/3 isn’t anything to write home about. So why utilize this 31f?

He can have a net cost of 2. Only Warrior Prodigy and the less user friendly 633fy 31f and Entry-Level Employee (the former having a condition top meet before playing him and the latter starting out as a 1/2/3) can match his stats for that price.

In addition to the resource pay back, he gets some pump with his gear card(s). In the ever evolving world of Gearsmith gear and the always possible “hand-off” after some form of tutor, he can be a nice 3/3/3 with little effort.

With proper errata:

If you play a "gear" card attached to this card, you may detach a resource from your faction.
While a "gear" card is attached to this card, this card gains 1 strength and 1 life.

With the original wording, it left the option of a Tri-Pole Magnet loop effectively allowing you to re-use your resources ad-nauseam.

In limited, gear may not be plentiful enough to make him worth while. In constructed, if you’re trying to stay at splash threshold, he could find a use.

Now here's a card that I want to build a deck around. In Constructed, I envision a Gear-heavy deck including this, 700160x 31f, and Runic Field Enhancer. In addition, the deck would use Rudimentary Lathe.

Let's assume you have one Rudimentary Lathe and 4p7 31f on the field. You could play Luteoderm Prototype onto 4p7 31f for one. Then you would detach a resource from your faction. Luteoderm Prototype was as good as free. And don't forget that your 'zero' cost gear just got 4p7 31f an additional two life and two strength You could keep playing 1 cost gear cards on Rudimentary Lathe till the cows came home and you ran out of gears in your hand.

Or you could play 700160x 31f to grab a now five cost Heavy Plating- and detach two of the three resources you used to play 700160x 31f from your faction. Such a deck is insanely cost efficient. You could go mono and try and get out Gigamajig- with boosted stats from all the gear cards and Runic Field Enhancer for the win. Or use the Horsemajigs of the Apocalypse with Elite Team Registration. Or go oldschool and make it an unfocused node variant.

In Limited, 4p7 31f has a decent body, and its abilities are just a nice bonus.

Constructed: 4.7/5
Limited: 3.5/5
