Article 4: Don’t Underestimate the Lady

I’m back with my fourth installment of my series Overlooked and Underrated.  For this article I have decided to focus my attention on the non-affiliated, always deadly, played by the beautiful Kelly Hu, yes ladies and gentlemen it’s Lady Deathstrike.

The first look of this card can be quite deceiving.  Just as Wolverine found out in X2 that her claws are also as razor sharp as his, your opponent can find out the same when you drop her late in the game.  Let’s take a look at her stats

Lady Deathstrike, Yuriko Oyama

Recruit Cost: 5

ATK 8

DEF 8

Whenever Lady Deathstrike attacks a character with a cost of 6 or more or is attacked by a character with a cost of 6 or more she gets +5 ATK and +5 DEF for this attack.

The perfect time to drop her is during turn 6.  Some of the more common 6 drops in the game include Dr. Doom, Hulk, Rogue-Powerhouse, etc.  The average of the 6 drop characters tends to be around 12, with the exception of Hulk who usually gains at least +3 ATK.  With Lady Deathstrike’s power, she can increase her ATK and DEF to a solid 13/13, which is one above the average of regular six drops.  The fact that not only her ATK but her DEF increases makes her a very well-rounded character.  Although she is unable to participate in team attacks and reinforcement she is able to withstand by herself even against the characters in the 7 drop.  Deathstrike makes for a very splashable card.  Some of the top 5 drops include Quicksilver-Speed Demon, Thing-Heavy Hitter, and Professor X-Charles Xavier (excuse me if I missed anyone).  She would definitely be a good insurance plan for players who run swarming decks that run on low resource counts.  For my final verdict, I give Lady Deathstrike a 6.5/10.  It is a 6.5 for her amazing power and a 0 for not being able to reinforce or participate in a team attack.
