The combo would not work like that. As it states on GiantGerm and other monsters with the same similar effect the effect can only be used as a result of battle. What this means is the GiantGerm (etc) has to go from the field to the graveyard during the battle phase in order for the effect to activate? You certainly still have every right to launch the GiantGerm (etc) but the effect of any of these cards will not activate as Cannon Soldier and Catapult Turtle effect can only be used during Main Phase 1 and Main Phase 2. So you would only do 500 direct damage to your opponent's LP not the 1000 direct damage as you believe would happen.

Hopefully this helps you become more experienced with the uses of YuGiOh cards especially the ones from the Magic Ruler release.
