Subject: Magic Ruler Rant - Ice Phoenix
Sup all. This is Ice Phoenix here w/ another rant of the set. You might remember an article on Jirai Gumo by Diego. That's me. I do this kind of stuff for fun. Stuff that is more fun read than written. Let's get on with that important work, shall we?

Magic Ruler - Everything you ever knew about Yu-Gi-Oh has been turned upside down and inside out and upside in and distorted in every possible way. Suddenly, with all of these cards with costs, 8000 LP doesn't seem like so much, huh? In LoB we saw hardly any cost cards. That changed in Metal Raiders when we opened our eyes to the possibilities of gaining advantages by paying LP. Now with Magic Ruler, it's more than a possibility. It's an entire new set of cards. Speaking of new types of cards, there are two that I'd like to address right here. Toons and Rituals. Rituals we know the basics of and we get the main idea, but TOONS?! With these nasty little critters we'll be seeing more than our share of Pegasus themed decks. But that's the essential point of this article, because I think that the main idea of MR is to warp the playing field, too generate images that aren't exactly so under the cards. With all these new cards and concepts, Magic Ruler promises to do what my idea of what it's supposed to do very well.

Chain Energy -
I like this card. I really do. This can REALLY be a pain in the butt for your opponent, especially if you go first. For all those who don't know what this does, it is a continuous magic that forces each player to pay 500 LP when the set a card or play one from the hand. Note how already set cards do not need to be paid for to be activated. Here's what you do. Set two of these (not necessarily at the same time) and activate them when you have around 3 monsters on the field and your necessities set. Make sure to wipe your opponents field clean of magic and monsters so he's forced to play cards or have his field attacked. He'll have to pay to play, and you'll destroy what remaining LP he has after he does. Ultimate offering does not like this card. Quick Plays hate it. Any card that isn't set hates it. Toons hate this. That brings me to my next subject.

Toons -
What can I say about toons? We've all known toons from the T.V. show. Of course, our perceptions were dampened by the invincibility that they boasted. If your new to Yu-Gi-Oh, then you might not know the truth about toons. To summon them, you need Toon World, and to play Toon World, you need to pay 1000 LP. Then, for the toons to attack, you need to pay 500 LP. Then, if Toon World is destroyed then all the toons are destroyed, too. The upside? Toons can attack LP directly. In my opinion? The only two that are remotely worth playing would be the Toon Skull and the Blue Eyes Toon Dragon. I don't think that the toons are worth the hassle, but they are a nice suprise. To play toons, you need to base a deck on them. You can't just have Toon World and a BETD in your deck. It won't work. Toons need special care. And good luck getting them. BETD is a secret rare (although both my friend and his brother have one and I only got Black Pendant -_-') and Toon Skull is an ultra rare. Toon world itself is a super rare. The rest aren't really worth space in your deck.

Mystic Space Typhoon -
This is an awesome card. The less awesome fact is that my brother got it and I didn't. Jeez, he has such good luck. He got Horn of Heaven, Suijin, Thousand Dragon, and Mystic Space Typhoon IN A ROW! @#!$!!! Oh well, back to the article. What's there to say about this card? It's a quick play. It destroys a magic/trap. That's freakin awesome enough for me. It's very flexible, takes on anything in a pinch, except for counter traps. That's it. All I've got to say. Staple this if you have three. If you have one at all, put it in. Gets a 5 in my book. Great card.

Relinquished -
Only a few cards left. This is one of them. A card we all know, and wish we could use it's effect on famous athletes, ladies and gentlemen, I give you...RELINQUISHED! Personally, I like this card. The thought of absorbing a monster is nasty. The only drawback is that it's a ritual. When Thousand Eyes Sacrifice comes out, you can just fuse this. You won't need to bother with the ritual. The good thing is that it's searchable via WOTBF and Sangan. And sacrificing a monster with a total number of stars equal to 1 isn't that hard. Plus all of these new effects make ritual monsters so much more playable. Anyways, its a pretty good card, and not only do you rob your opponents ability, but your rid of your opponents monster. A nice card, not as good as Mystic Space Typhoon, but pretty good.

Fairy's Hand Mirror -
Second to last card. This trap allows you to redirect the target of your opponents magic to another legal target. Equip Cards HATE this card. ANY targeting card hates this card. It's absolutely amazing. Redirect Megamorph, Axe Of Despair, SODS, Horn Of The Unicorn, to your monsters. And can you believe this amazing trap is a common? The only problem is it might waste space and not to many decks run equip cards, but there are still countless purposes for this card. Put 2 in your side deck. 1 goes in your deck. This card is above average and as such must be treated as one. TTTD doesn't seem that handy anymore, huh? This card has many purposes. I think it's worth a look.

Megamorph -
Last card. Megamorph. This card doubles the attack of your monster if you have less LP than your opponent and halves it if you have more. Like I said, this card HATES Fairy's Hand Mirror, but what are you going to do about it? A nice surprise for your opponent whether you double your attack, or halve theirs. Dark Elf, Jirai Gumo, and so many others now are absolutely amazing with this card. Any decent effect monster becomes unstoppable. I hold this card in high esteem and I don't see the problem with it. Equip cards have been amazingly underestimated and this brings up their status quite significantly. It's a nice ultra rare to at least try in your deck.

That's all. If you have any questions, comments, or complaints, e-mail me at ice_phoenix007@msn.com. I might do another one of these to cover any cards that I left out, and there are quite a few left. Thanx for your time - Ice Phoenix
