I've found within the many tips that have been submitted to this website variations and additions to a set of Deck Master rules and abilities that I've been working on for a long time.  For those that are interested, I submit the current version of these rules as I, their original creator, have created.

The following changes have been made to this Reference Guide since Version One.

RULES

With the exception of the new rules listed below, this Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG variation follows all rules and rulings of Upper Deck's official English Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game.

(1) At the beginning of each duel, you and your opponent each select one monster card from your deck and lay it facedown on the table above your side of the field.  This card will be known as your Deck Master, and the area in which it resides will be known as your Deck Master Zone.  After both you and your opponent have chosen a Deck Master, flip the two cards face-up and continue the duel.  

The Deck Master Zone is not considered to be a part of the field.  Thus, the effects of cards such as Raigeki will not affect any cards in the Deck Master Zone.  

(2) At any time during the current duel except for the Damage Step, you may Special Summon your Deck Master from its Deck Master Zone to your side of the field in either face-up Attack position or face-up Defense position.  

This rule overrides the effect text of certain monsters such as XYZ-Dragon Cannon or Yata-Garasu which stops them from being Special Summoned or from being Special Summoned until certain requirements are fulfilled.  Thus, even if you choose a monster such as XYZ-Dragon Cannon or Yata-Garasu as a Deck Master, you may still Special Summon them to the field at anytime during the current duel except for the Damage Step.

(3) If your Deck Master is ever permanently sent to the Graveyard or removed from the game, you automatically lose the current duel.

(4) When your Deck Master is on the field, you may tribute it to the Graveyard to fulfill the summoning requirements of a Fusion, Ritual, or Tribute Summoned monster, and that monster will immediately become your new Deck Master, gaining all the advantages and disadvantages thereof.  

(5) At any time during the current duel except for the Damage Step, you may tribute your current Deck Master to the Graveyard and, at the same time, Special Summon your original Deck Master to the field in the same battle position, and that monster will immediately become your Deck Master, again, gaining all the advantages and disadvantages thereof.

(6) If your Deck Master is ever permanently sent to the Graveyard or removed from the game and you immediately activate or use an effect which Special Summons a new monster to your side of the field because the loss of your Deck Master fulfilled the requirements for its successful activation, you do not lose the current duel, and the Special Summoned monster becomes your new Deck Master, gaining all the advantages and disadvantages thereof.

Example 1:
Your Deck Master is the Gate Guardian.  
Your opponent sends it to the Graveyard by activating Raigeki on their turn.  
You immediately activate the Quick-Play Spell Card "A Deal With Dark Ruler" which you set on the field on your last turn.
You Special Summon a Berserk Dragon from your hand to your side of the field.
Your Deck Master is now Berserk Dragon.
You do not lose the current duel yet.

Example 2:
Your Deck Master is the Gate Guardian.
On your turn, you activate the Spell card "Last Will."
You Special Summon your Deck Master, Gate Guardian, to the field.
Your opponent activates the Trap card "Torrential Tribute" which they set on their last turn.
You Special Summon a Spirit Reaper to your side of the field using the effect of Last Will.
Your Deck Master is now Spirit Reaper.
You do not lose the current duel yet.

(7) Certain monsters have one or more sets of special monster effects known as Deck Master Abilities that they gain whenever you select them as your Deck Master and they are either face-up on your side of the field or in your Deck Master Zone.  Currently, all holographic monsters in the American Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as well as a small number of selected non-holographic monster cards in American Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game have at least one set of Deck Master Abilities.  To see the current list of all available Deck Master Abilities in this game variation, see the Deck Master Abilities section later in this Reference Guide.

When your Deck Master is face-up on your opponent's side of the field, your Deck Master's Deck Master Abilities continue to be in effect, however, your opponent has control of them, rather than you.  Also, your Deck Master's Deck Master Abilities cease to be in effect when the original monster that you chose to be your Deck Master is not currently acting as your Deck Master.  Finally, if you choose a monster to act as your Deck Master which is not holographic, and there is currently a holographic version of that Deck Master available in the official American Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, your monster cannot use any of its Deck Master Ability Sets.  

DECK MASTER ABILITIES

There are six distinct types of Deck Master Abilities.  The information below outlines these types.

(1) CONTINUOUS-TYPE DECK MASTER ABILITIES
*Activate automatically at the beginning of the current duel, and stay activate until the end of the current duel.
*Spell Speed: 1
*Only cease to be active when negated or when the Deck Master they belong to ceases to be either face-up on the field or in the Deck Master Zone

(2) COUNTER-TYPE DECK MASTER ABILITIES
*Activate whenever you trigger them outside of the Damage Step
*Spell Speed: 3
*Are only briefly active when triggered
*Can only be triggered in immediate response to or triggered in a chain immediately after the circumstances required for its activation (like a Counter Trap Card)

(3) INSTANT-TYPE DECK MASTER ABILITIES
*Activate automatically at the beginning of the current duel
*Spell Speed: 1
*Are only briefly active at the beginning of the duel
*Resolve before either player even draws the first card from the top of their deck
*Can be negated, since they do resolve at the same time as certain other effects can become active

(4) SETUP-TYPE DECK MASTER ABILITIES
*Activate automatically before the current duel begins
*No Spell Speed
*Are only active before the current duel begins, but stay in effect throughout the entirety of the current duel (but not for the entirety of the current match)
*Modify the way the current duel is setup by modifying either this game variation's Deck Construction Rules (including Forbidden/Limited List) or Deck Master selection
*Cannot be negated, since they resolve before all other effects can become active

(5) SPELL-TYPE DECK MASTER ABILITIES
*Activate whenever you trigger them during your Main Phase
*Spell Speed: 1
*Are only briefly active when triggered

(6) TRAP-TYPE DECK MASTER ABILITIES
*Activate whenever you trigger them outside of the Damage Step
*Spell Speed: 2
*Are only briefly active when triggered

There are over 150 sets of Deck Master Abilities currently available in this game variation.  A complete list of these Deck Master Ability sets can be found below.  Also, note that if you select a Deck Master that has more than one set of Deck Master Abilities, you must announce which Deck Master Ability set that you will be using in the current duel when you and your opponent first reveal your Deck Masters to one another.
