The Banned List, and what it May Hold in the Future

By now, nearly everyone has heard of the infamous banned list for Japan.  If you haven’t, here’s a quick review:

  1. Yata-Garasu
  2. Injection Fairy Lily
  3. Painful Choice
  4. Delinquent Duo
  5. Change of Heart
  6. Imperial Order
  7. Cyber Jar
  8. Fiber Jar
  9. Raigeki
  10. Harpies Feather Duster

Ten very powerful cards, each there for a reason.    Konami will release an amended list in September.

What might we expect?  What should we expect?  Here are my thoughts.

  1. Yata-Garasu:  If this card ever leaves the banned list, I will be very surprised.  This is one of the few cards that can

single-handedly win a duel.

  1. Black Luster Soldier-Envoy of the Beginning:  I’d say, “Don’t get me started,” but here I am.   The card is abused,

and I’m as guilty of the practice as anyone.  I’ve let Soldier sit there, removing every card my opponent set, until I achieved

Yata lock.  Oh, and a double attack is particularly generous for a monster that starts at 3000!

  1. Chaos Emperor Dragon-Envoy of the End:  Again- abuse, abuse, ABUSE!!!!  Aside from the cheap Yata combo, the ability

to blow up your opponent’s hand, annihilate their field, and deal large amounts of direct damage, all for the price of your hand,

field, and 1000 LP is game breaking.  If you are top decking, this card can bail you out of a huge problem.

  1. Jinzo:  A 2400 beatstick with the ability to scare traps stiff.  This card can put you at ease if an opponent has two, three,

or even five cards face down.  The only major threat against Jinzo is Snatch Steal, but with many people running Breaker,

Heavy Storm, AND three MSTs, he will usually find his way home in short order..

  1. Change of Heart:  Tribute, suicide, attack directly, there is hardly a better top deck.  It is far too powerful to leave this list.

  1. Imperial Order:  Many, who use this as a free Magic Jammer, do not know the true menace of this trap.  It is  “irritating” to

have magic cards pile up in your hand as your opponent beats you up with anything they can unleash that isn’t Jinzo.

  1. Monster Reborn:  Bring back Jinzo, Envoy of the Beginning, your Envoy of the End, etc., etc., etc.  This is one of those perfect

top decks like Change of Heart, it can turn a duel around very quickly.

  1. Magical Scientist:  If you have a large amount of LP, and a trap or two to back him up, this card is an excellent friend to have.

You can summon monsters and launch them off Catapult Turtle.  You can summon Dark Flare Knight and beat your opponent up

with Mirage Knights.  You can summon an army of Dark Balter, Ryu Senshi, and Fiend Skull Dragon to stop Sangan, Cyber,

Fiber, 1900 beatsticks, etc.

  1. Raigeki:  If you think this is ever leaving, you are living on an island with a diminutive fellow who keeps yelling,

“Ze plane!  Ze plane Boss!”   .

  1. Harpies Feather Duster:  If only they changed the text to say:  If Harpie Lady or Harpie Lady Sisters is on the field. . .

before the devastating effect.  If you run Harpies, run this in casual play and try to follow the improved text.  I don’t

think banning this was the right move, a reprint would have been better.  Oh well. . .

That ends my first article on the future Banned List.  Please note I don’t know this to be the future list, it is just what I believe

should be there.  Thanks for reading!
