Wed- White Magical Hat

White Magicial Hat is a funny card. It obviously goes into control deck due to the random discard effect he has. While his attack is low, with later sets, equips can help him overcome this weakness. Of course, a well placed mass monster removal works fine right now too. Unfortunately, he is what you call “waste of space.” There’s too many BETTER cards you can use and not many cards to support him.

Rating: 2/5 Eh, he doesn’t suck, just not good enough right now.

Sorry I didn't write for Tremendous Fire yesterday, but I had gone to a water park all day and I was still kind of bummed about missing my first sanctioned tourney.  Today's card is White Magical Hat.

Card Text:
Light/Spellcaster/3/1000/700
Effect: When this card inflicts damage to your opponent's Life Points, 1 card must be discarded randomly from your opponent's hand to the Graveyard.

Analysis:
Well now, this is a creative critter!  This card is basically Robbin' Goblin put into a monster form.  If this card does LP damage to your opponent, they randomly discard a card.  The problem lies in its stats.  1000/700 won't win many battles.   You would figure there is no way for the effect to go through, right?

Now you have more incentive to pull out that Raigeki/Dark Hole.  With a clear field, this critter nukes your opponent's hand.  Combine it with the aforementioned Robbin' Goblin and your opponent loses two cards from your hand.  The stats just aren't really workable right now.  Hoshinigen may help, but it's not really worth it.  With Magic Ruler, however, this card becomes VERY viable.  We'll cover that when the time comes, however.

Combos:
White Magical Hat + Robbin' Goblin: 2 random discards.

White Magical Hat + Raigeki/Dark Hole: Free direct damage attack.

Counters:
Trap Hole: Oh no, it doesn't even get on the field!

Waboku: Oh no, no damage!

Mirror Force: Oh no, it's destroyed!

Stats: Oh no, it can't inflict any LP damage!

Should YOU play it?
You can sidedeck it if you play a heavy monster removal/hand disruption deck, but I'd steer clear until at least Magic Ruler.

Score:
White Magical Hat gets a 2.4.  It's not as useless as other cards we've reviewed (in fact, its effect is pretty good), but its stats aren't very good.  (Now that I think about it, I shouldn't have given Masked Sorcerer a 3.3.)

Today was have an odd, albeit very fun, little card. White Magical Hats is quite a rare little gem, as hand destruction is one of the most viable and devastating strategies to date. It's amazing used in conjunction with other cards, and it gives a way of defending yourself if you have little to no other options.

Hand destruction is amazing. It can be said when you have a small hand and your opponent has a large one, he probably has the advantage, despite a life point difference. The more options a person has, the more a person can recover from devastating assaults, whereas the reciprocal is that it is very hard to recover with a small hand - you have to rely on topdecking, which is never good.

Anyway, White Magical Hats, while not a strong monster, can be just as devastating. If you use it with Robbin' Goblin, and a well-timed Raigeki/Dark Hole, your opponent will find it nearly impossible to recover. Try it!

Rating - 3.75 It has potential, and hand destruction is really good at the moment, and in the future.
