wartortle32 Dark Magician

Dark/7/2500/2100

There have been great improvements to the card game ever since we reviewed DM last. When it first came out in LOB and the Starter Deck, it wasn't all that good as it had nothing to support it. By MFC, we have received more of the DM support cards that go into a DM deck, such as Dark Magician Girl and Skilled Dark Magician. With these, DM decks are at least playable now and are a fun variant on the old beatdown theme.

There are still some more Dark Magician cards that haven't been released yet such as Curtain of Black Magic, but as the game stands now, DM is definitely a card that could have a tourney winning deck built around it.

Wednesday - Dark Magician

For a very long time Dark Magician wasn't even close to being playable. In the early days of Yu-Gi-Oh!, why would you want to sacrifice two Monsters for 2500 ATK when you could simply sacrifice one Monster and get a Monster of the same ATK power?

In that time, there was absolutely no reason to run Dark Magician in anything but a casual deck. With the recent release of Skilled Dark Magician, all of that has changed.

Ever since we've lost the usefulness of Bazoo the Soul-Eater, straight Beatdown decks lost much of their aggressive power. Even though Skilled Dark Magician isn't near as fast as Bazoo the Soul-Eater, it's still a good replacement in basic Beatdown decks. The potential to receive a Monster with over 2300 ATK at no sacrificial cost is still there.

Keep in mind that unless your deck is BASED off of Dark Magician, you shouldn't run more than one copy in the deck. With Skilled Dark Magician's Effect able to mutate into a Dark Magician in your Graveyard, one is all you will need.

In Limited, 2500 is still very good. Even though you probably won't have a Skilled Dark Magician in this format, two Tribute is realistically possible.

Rating:

Constructed - 2.9/5
Limited - 3.5/5

Dark/7/2500/2100
[Spellcaster]
Card Number LOB-005/SDY-006/DDS-002/BPT-001/BPT-007
Ultra Rare

Upsides:
Good attack
Easily found
Good defense

Down Sides:
2 Sacrifices are needed
Not the best spellcaster out there (Chaos Command Magician)

In Casual, this card is decent to play. I played it for like a few months when I first started. I was like, ”This is the best card in my deck!” But those days are gone, and I came to my senses.

In Tourney, this card has gotten on my nerves before, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. I feel if it were to be played in any old deck, it would not quite work, but in a spellcaster deck based around him and paladin, it would be a devil.

In Sealed, this card is power, and with all the monsters you will probably play in your deck, you might need the extra firepower. Not much can stop him either, as only something with more than 2500 attack power would kill him and the only thing of that nature is Blue Eyes White Dragon.

I give D. Magician a 1.5/5 (any deck) 2.8.3*continuous*/5 (magician deck)

C. Rating: 3.0
T. Rating: 1.4 (any deck) 2.4 (magician deck)
S. Rating: 3.1
yugi2112 Ah... my first card of the day. What better to start out with the classic Dark Magician. Dark Magician is a very good card in my opinion. The only flaw with this guy is the two-tributes. It has a great attack mostly wiping out your opponent's monsters. Another plus is how many times it's been released. SDY, LOB, BP1, BP2, DMG and others. There are many supporting cards unfortunately most are promos or URs or SCRs. Too many to list but they include Dark Magician Girl, Diffusion Motion Wave, and Thousand Knives. Dark Magician has two fusions believe it or not: Black Paladin and Dark Flare Knight (name may vary). Black Paladin is very good as most of us know. A 2900 ATK Magic Jammer and a Buster Blader. Dark Flare Knight (Dark Magician + Flame Swordsman) is a pretty good card that'll come out in Dark Crisis, which you guys will just have to wait for. DM has great cards coming out in the future as well to help it out like Magician's Valkyria, Magician's Tome etc. Now for the classic Pros and Cons:

Pros:
+ Helper Cards
+ Spellcaster (Good now-a-days)
+ Released a lot
+ Yugi plays it! (By far the most important)

Cons:
- 2 Tributes
- Very bad among those 2 tributers
- BEWD is out more and has more attack
- Jackal Bait

The cons look bad but it's okay. I encourage you to play a deck revolved around it. So many cards will help it eventually so get your copy now!

My First Rating: 3.9/5
Art: SDY: 2/5 LOB: 3.4
I like the LOB better. Nice and calm. Not that horrible attacking position.
