Dark Paladin
Tuesday

It's T3 day, as we look at a card who has a two part name, both which start with T...the Tongue Twister. Well, we have here a Level 6 monster, requiring a tribute, with 400 attack and 300 defense, of the Dark attribute, who is a Fiend.

How unremarkable...you do get to draw two cards when this guy goes to the Graveyard however...wait...only if he is sent from the Field to the Gr aveyard...still not so bad. Again, wait...only if he was tribute summoned, and then sent from the Field.

It's not worth a tribute summon just for the two cards folks, I'm sorry.

Ratings:

1/5 all around, it does something, but takes too much effort and detracts too much.

Art: 3/5 A giant snake-like tongue, with one eye, who stands on one foot? Scary as hell!

Today we look at a secret rare from the new set, Tongue Twister.

A tribute monster with 400 attack and 300 defense. This can’t be good! The effect lets you draw two cards when this card was tribute summoned, then sent to the graveyard. I just can’t justify a tribute for a puny monster for an effect like this. You can’t even tribute SET it to avoid the damage you will likely take in getting its effect off!

If you want little monsters that draw, try Skelengel, Crystal Seer, Dekoichi, etc.

Carrotizer Tongue Twister
Dark/Fiend/Effect Level 6 400 ATK/300 DEF
If this card was Tribute Summoned, when it is sent from the field to the Graveyard, draw 2 cards and remove this card from play.

I am sorry for you if you pulled this one and not Necroface or Soul Taker. I would not complain if I pulled a Secret Rare (I only got Mist Archfiend), but still…there are better Secret Rares.

This card’s effect is not optional, meaning it will activate as long as requirement has been met. Luckily, that removes potential problems in chaining. If only there was no “If this card was Tribute Summoned” part…

While D.D. Crow cannot stop this card, Macro Cosmos/Dimensional Fissure can. D.D. Warrior Lady may also hinder this card’s activation. With 400 ATK and even lower 300 DEF, Dark Magician of Chaos (there is almost nothing that can withstand 2800 ATK, but still…) will just eat this tongue in one bite.

Although it is searchable with Sangan, it has to be sent from the hand to the field by Tributing a monster, then to the Graveyard. Assuming Treeborn Frog was Tributed, this card requires a summon, a card (itself), and some LP, because Setting a Level 5+ through Tribute is NOT a Tribute Summon. 400 ATK will block Magician of Faith and Spirit Reaper, sure.

Let’s set the best possible scenario. You have an active Ultimate Offering on the field (-1), and a floater. 3 Tongue Twisters in hand. Summon 1st one by wasting the summon (I will never count summon as a card advantage directly, but it still is an important factor). Sacrifice 1st one, summon 2nd, summon 3rd by sacrificing 2nd. By using 4 cards, 1000 LP, a Summon, and a floater, you received 2 extra cards. Why not go for Exodia? Win the duel with an extra card.

Monarchs give an extra card (or get rid of one of opponent) with a floater and a summon. Only if Tongue Twister had, say, 2000 ATK, it would not be so bad. The stats ruin the card for once…I will take it back. The stats are really bad though.

Traditional: 1.1/5 Not a chance.
Advanced: 2.2/5 Only if it came out before Monarchs…then it might have had a shot.

Tongue Twister

This is one of the three cards that won the Create a Card contest. It is not nearly as good as his brethren. You need to tribute summon him, which is the major downside of this card, and then you remove him from play when he is destroyed in order to draw two cards. His low ATK values and lackluster effect make him one of the worst Secret Rares of all time. And no, he does not get his effect unless he was tribute summoned.
