Elemental Hero Captain Gold

Suck suck suck suck suck suck suck suck...okay, done with that part of the review.

I think we've learned a few things about E-Heroes in the last couple months:

*Any deck depending on Skyscraper for ATK boosts typically won't do that well. ATK boosts aren't worth running a field spell for.
*Any E-Hero deck depending on Skyscraper 2's effect CAN do well, because you can just generate massive advantage.

Sorry, if you're going to run E-Heroes as a full decktype, it really needs to be the Big City variant...that is, unless you like losing. The general mechanic of "discard a monster to search a specific field spell" is a great one, but it kinda helps when (A) you don't have to have the field spell already to play the monster without it going emo and killing itself and (B) the field spell doesn't completely suck ass.

It's trade fodder, and not much else past that.

Coolest E-Hero picture...ever!

That being said, today we look at Elemental Hero, Captain Gold, which fits him pretty well since he is quite Gold in that awesome costume.

This is good support for the E-Hero fans out there. 2100 attack for a Level 4 monster (even an E-Hero) is awesome. That's strong enough to match Cyber Dragon and take down most anything that isn't a tribute monster.

Captain Gold does have a bit of a side-effect, but it isn't that bad.
If Skyscraper isn't on the Field, he is destroyed. However, a Level 4 monster with 2100 attack should have a bit of a weakness.

Now, if you don't have Skyscraper on the Field, no problem. Send this guy to the Graveyard, and you can add Skyscraper from your Deck to your Hand. Awesome...note that the card says if Skyscraper isn't on the Field, Captain Gold is destroyed. Not your Field, but not on the Field. So if you get lucky enough for your opponent to play Skyscraper, you can still play him.

Ratings:

4.5/5 E-Hero Not a 5 simply because he can't be played if Skyscraper isn't out.

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

This card is for a particular theme. yet I wonder if E-Hero control needs this? The point being the effect is a needed one and a nice addition to theme support. But the theme is not really worth using compared to other options.

Today we look at another E-hero….

ELEMENTAL HERO CAPTAIN GOLD

You can discard this card to the Graveyard to add 1 "Skyscraper" from your Deck to your hand. If this card is on the field but "Skyscraper" is not on the field, destroy this card.

A 4-star 2100 is pretty good. It’s a warrior, and It’s light as well. All good things, so far no complaints.

Onto the effect. You can discard this card to grab a Skyscraper from your deck. (Just the original, you can’t get Skyscraper 2) This gives the card versatility. Draw this guy when you already have Skyscraper and summon him to kamekaze with that Cyber Dragon. Or, if you don’t have a Skyscraper out, discard him to get one. Like all the other new field spell searchers, this card beats Terraforming easily.

The bad news is that if this card is out and Skyscraper is not, this card is destroyed. So, if they MST your Skyscaper, they get a +1! Not good.

In short, if you play E-heros with the original skyscraper, play this, otherwise don’t.

By discarding this card from your hand to the Graveyard, add 1 "Skyscraper" from your Deck to your hand. If there is no "Skyscraper" on the field, this face-up card on the field is destroyed.
2100/800

Here we see a really powerful Non-Tribute or Non-Fusion Elemental Hero. Though he does have 2100, he has that draw back, like many of the monsters that you can discard to search for the field card, that if it's not on the field, then it's destroyed. The good thing about Captain Gold is that when you do have Skyscraper and you attack into a monarch or a bigger monster, you gain 1000 ATK points so it makes Captain Gold a 3100 ATK which is huge in this game. Though many won't play Skyscraper or Captain Gold, it's good to use when making a theme deck. I don't see this being in any Tier 1 deck at all, but for fun decks, it can really work. Being 2100 it can go heads up with most monsters even Cyber Dragon. But the drawback, makes him unusable in this current format, especially with Snipe Hunters everywhere.

Traditional: 1/5 Nothing, nothing at all here, sure it's a light, but other than that really can't do anything.
Advanced: 1.5/5 In a theme and fun deck this can work, not as many threats as in traditional, yet it's still unstable.

Turkeyspit Elemental Hero Captain Gold

What a shame.

E-Hero Captain Gold is yet another of the "Field Spell Tutor" cards included in Force of the Breaker, built to search out a copy of "Skyscraper" from your deck. Unfortunately Skyscraper has never been a competitive card, nor do I expect it to become so in the future.

Had Captain Gold's text allowed it to search out a card with "Skyscraper" in it's name, then at least it could be used in a Big City deck to search out "Skyscraper 2".

Captain Gold is a 4-star 2100 ATK Monster, but requires that Skyscraper active on the field, otherwise he self-destructs. This opens the door for some potential use in a Skill Drain deck, but I really doubt that anyone will see this guy in a competitive deck anytime soon.

------------------------------------

Traditional:
1/5 - no surprise here

Advanced:
1/5 - Captain Gold just doesn't suit the requirements of a competitive E-Hero Deck, and even casual E-Hero decks stray away from Skyscraper.

2/5 - "And the Oscar goes to..."
