Dark Paladin

Tuesday

Today we look at Fiendish Engine, a Dark monster who is a Machine, not a Fiend, and who happens to be Level 8 who has the comfortable and powerful attack of 2800 and a reasonably solid 2000 defense.

Now, as powerful as Fiendish Engine is at 2800 attack, he is rather lackluster in the effect department.  During each of Your End Phases, you can Special Summon one Engine Token (Machine/Earth/Level 1/200 atk-200 def) in Attack Position.

While 200 attack is incredibly low, it is really nice they didn't stick on the "these tokens cannot be used for tribute summon...or these tokens cannot be tributed" effects on their, so you can at least use them if they stick around.

Furthermore, once per turn, you can raise the attack of Fiendish Engine by 1000 points (to 3800) but then you have the unfortunate effect of your monster destroying itself.  This isn't a bad card either...however, their are better things to play, even in a Machine Deck.

General Zorpa Fiendish Engine

This is Papa Dekoichi. At level 8 and 2800 ATK, this is an average level 8 monster stat wise. It's effect needs it to be on the field for a while in order to be effective, as you would tribute the tokens for various effects and summons. I do think that since it can be Special Summoned, it can be used in order to get Destiny Hero Plasma out earlier in a PLasma/Dogma/D-End deck. it already has the Level 8 for Trade-In, and has a rather nice field presence on it's own. I do think that if it were a single tribute with reduced stats, it would be better. Big monsters just tend to be magnets for removal, and you want this guy to stick around for a while.

You can boost his  ATK by 1000, but then he is destroyed at the end of the turn. This makes it awfully hard to kill in battle, getting over every monster that I have ever seen in tournament play that wasn't a fusion monster. I do think that this card can be used well, I just think that the format is too destruction based right now for it to shine. Of course, with Stardust Dragon backing it up, this card makes Synchro Summoning even more glorious than it already was.

If I were you I would be on the look out for these cards. I think that someone is going to use it well, and you will be glad that you did your pre-emptive collecting rather than trying to get them at the last minute when they cost 50 bucks a pop.

Secret Rare

Todayʼs card up for review is Fiendish Machine. Yet another waste of a Secret Rare slot in Duelist Genesis. In this metagame, rarely will you pull off a double tribute summon monster, and/or keep it on the field for more than a turn. Sorry for the short review, but if you want to use something to get tokens, use Phantom Skyblaster

This card is weird. It has absolutely no purpose for the tokens, except maybe tributing. The second effect I could see happening for and OTK maybe?...or not. This card just doesn't quite make the grade. Just not that great.

1/5 trad. Way too slow.

2.5/5 adv. Maybe a plasma or monarch deck...?

THe ONe PG 16 on the Pojo Boards

Long Time, well I want to thank GeneralZorpa for inspiring me to write again for COTD after a long talk with him after a regional I went to this weekend, Don't worry everyone, I'm currently working on an article for you all soon! =]

Fiendish Engine Ω
Level 8
Dark
[Machine/Effect]
During your End Phase, Special Summon 1 "Engine Token" (Machine-Type/EARTH/Level 1/ATK 200/DEF 200) in Attack Position. Once per turn, you can have this card gain 1000 ATK. If you do, it is destroyed during the End Phase.
2800/2000

Alright everyone, a Trade-In Special! Another freakishly huge monster with a high level. 2800 ATK for an Level 8 monster isn't the worst we've seen, let's face it, Dark Magician of Chaos, Cyber-Twin Dragon and Dark Armed Dragon all can be taken down by this fella, but realistically, would you play this card? Probably not. Fiendish Engine Ω is don't get me wrong, a pretty cool looking card, but the effect of him is quite questionable. Gaining 1000 ATK for anything without an equip spell card is nice, but to lose him at the End Phase, is never really worth it, you better have a well-timed Limiter Removal for him. This card would be remotely better, if you could just tribute those token to make him gain 1000 ATK, sort of like Destiny Hero - Dasher. But the fact they go into ATK position when Special Summoned is just asking you to be in a world of hurt when your opponent brings out another monster and runs the token over. Like I said at the beginning, Trade-In Special, but other than that, I don't see the big use for him just yet, who knows, there could be some really nice combo with him, but as for now, there isn't one that so much makes this card be so playable.

Traditional: 1.5/5, .5 just because it's a Dark.
Advanced: 1/5, The effect could be better and more beneficial to the player playing it, 2800 ATK isn't bad at all, but the effect of Fiendish Engine Ω is.
