Dark Paladin
Friday

Well, it's nice that the best card of the week is being reviewed on Friday! Hanewata brings one question to mind...how is this only a Super Rare?

Anyway, we have a Level 1 Fairy-type Tuner monster of the Light attribute with 200 attack and 300 defense, with a simple effect. It can negate any and all effect damage you take during a turn by being discarded to the Graveyard, and it can be done during either player's turn, so it can be damage you do, or your opponent is doing to you.

It's a great card, for either Format, and I would recommend playing one for whatever Deck you are using, as it will most likely come in handy at one time or another. Hand disruption isn't all that big right now, so it can sit relatively safely in your Hand. Plus, it's a Tuner, so it has an additional use for Synchros!

Art: 5/5 SO cute in holofoil! A different colored Watapon, but with Wings :) Adorable!
General Zorpa Hanewata

This is like a Kuriboh for Burn damage. That is all there is to it. The fact that it is a Tuner, LIGHT Fairy is just a bonus. In the end, he is just anti-burn tech. And how many Burn decks have seen play at a Shonen Jump this year? None. So, the counter to a non-existent decktype would not be good to play right now.

I have to rate this card fairly though, he stops any burn damage for a turn, often at a total surprise to an opponent. He does what he does better than pretty much any other card out there. Unfortunately, he is not needed at all right now, but if ever Burn decks come back, he will be played, at least in side decks.

Super Rare

Effect damage isn't as big as it was when Chain Burn was around. Hanewata can be discarded like a D.D. Crow to have any effect damage you take this turn 0. The only effect damage cards we have that are played are Ceasefire and Magic Cylinder. It would just eliminate Chain Burn decks, but since Burn decks in general aren't being played this card won't see mucb play. It is a tuner though, which can help Syncrho summon. Its a card that would have been better years back.

Anteaus Hanewata

The Fairy Kuriboh. That's pretty much enough said, right?

Maybe not. Kuriboh hasn't seen play, really, since Legacy of Darkness, and his status as a tier-one card has been disputed since his release. The main reason he hasn't been maindecked for so long is the fact that his discard is just another card out of your hand, no more, no less. He didn't feed the graveyard for you (except in the Necrofear Return deck), and Hanewata can. Hanewata can add a lot of power to a Fairy build, whether it's Counter-Fairy or otherwise. I'd definitely expect to see him being played more.

In Traditional, it can feed the graveyard for some Chaos, but overall it won't see much play.

Advanced: 3.5/5
Traditional: 1.5/5
