Dark Paladin
Tuesday

Continuing on, we come to Belial-Marquis of Darkness, a very interesting monster. Belial is a Level 8 monster, meaning he requires two tributes, (Double Coston can take care of that for you, however) but he boasts a solid 2800 attack, (and 2400 defense) which matches Dark Magician of Chaos, one of the only two tribute monsters you see played at all.

Belial is also a Dark mosnter, of the Fiend-type, which makes him a welcome addition to that Deck. Belial has two rather helpful effects...or so it seems. First, as long as Belial is on the Field, it is the only monster your opponent can attack. That's a good thing, as with all the Divine Monarchy looming around, 2400 attack won't destroy this monster, in either mode.

Secondly, Belial can't be targeted as the effect of a Magic or Trap card. That's also a good thing, but how many cards do you play that actually target a monster? Not that many, so it is helpful once in a while, but it's still a bit of welcome protection.

Ratings:

Traditional: 1.5/5 A little too slow.

Advanced: 3.5/5 Definitely a solid Fiend.

General Zorpa Belial-Marquis of Darkness

To tell you the truth, I don't know why this is a secret. A friend of mine just pulled this Monday and was extremely disappointed. He is big, with large ATK and his effect is not bad, just not as good as any other secret. If your opponent targets a monster, then they have to target Belial. However, usually Belial WILL be the intended target due to his double tribute status and large ATK. Kinda pointless if you ask me.

Belial – Marquis of Darkness

DARK/Level 8

Fiend/Effect

2800 ATK/2400 DEF

Your opponent cannot select any monster you control, except “Belial – Marquis of Darkness,” as an attack target, or as a target of a Spell or Trap Card.

I guess I should be glad that this card is Secret Rare and Dark Nephthys was only “upped” to Ultra Rare from Super Rare.

    Let’s list some potentials…

*Level 8: Trade-In, Herald of Creation, 2400 boost for The Calculator.  Certainly better than Level 7.

*DARK: Armageddon Knight, Dark Grepher, Strike Ninja, all those new PTDN cards.

*Art: not so bad, with a huge sword resembling Warrior’s Shadowtitanium Great Sword in CABAL Online…but enough with that…

This is one of those filler Secret Rares.  You do not gain any card advantage for playing this card, unless you manage to summon this against a Gadget player with 3 Shrink, 3 Enemy Controller, 3 Sakuretsu Armor, 3 Dimensional Prison, and 3 Soul Taker…assuming Bottomless Trap Hole, Mirror Force, Torrential Tribute, Smashing Ground, Fissure.

It is really sad to see a card with such a solid DEF with an effect that renders it practically useless.  Sure, Plasma will negate the effect…and absorb Belial.

All I see in this card is another Fiend with 2800 ATK.

Master Tricks
Belial - Marquis of Darkness

I actually like this card not only because of the cool art, but also because it is a secret rare dark fiend who has a very helpful effect that protects all of your monsters, except itself, from your opponent's card effects. Here's the pros of Belial and how you duelists should use him:
  1. Works with Trade-In since it is a Level 8 monster.
  2. Works with Allure of Darkness, a new hot Ultra Rare card in Phantom Darkness, since it is a DARK monster. Then you can combo it with Escape from the Dark Dimension, D.D.M. - DIfferent DImension Master, Return from the Different Dimension, or Dimension Fusion.
  3. Protects all of your monsters, except itself, from opponent's nasty card effects.
  4. Works with FIends and a Dark-Theme deck as well as other cards in Phantom Darkness.
  5. A gargantuan 2800 ATK to match up with Dark Magician of Chaos and a sturdy 2400 ATK to shield itself from Monarchs, Sacred Phoenix, etc.
  6. You can use Call of the Haunted, Premature Burial, Escape from the Dark Dimension, Monster Gate, Reasoning, and D.D.M. - Different Dimension Master to special summon this card easily rather than waiting a few turns to normal summon this colossal bad boy.
  7. Can be special summoned by Doom Shaman in a Fiend or Dark-Theme deck.
These are basically all I can think of to work this secret rare well since many people underestimate this card and treat it as the 2nd-3rd least strongest Secret Rare from PHantom Darkness. Never underestimate a card unless it truly has proven itself to be not as productive and useful as some other cards. FYI, this card CAN be special summoned, so take advantage of this freedom and use Doom Shaman, Monster Gate, Reasoning, Escape from the Dark DImension, etc. to get it out fast. Really good card. If you have any other ideas about this card, feel free to tell me them at pathoon@aol.com.

Traditional: 2.25/5
Advanced: 3.75/5 (Let's see if I'm right about this card actually being good in the future metagame!)
Art: 5/5 (Very intimidating picture of a 1/3 human, 1/3 Demon, 1/3 angel warrior)
Ed Tuesday - Belial - Marquis of Darkness

Today we take a look at yet another DARK monster from the Phantom of Darkness set, but it doesn't have the usual DARK monster effect that involves having a certain number of DARK monsters already in the Graveyard. Belial's effect forces the opponent to target him with an effect or an attack. I can see this card being used in a way that protects more useful monsters that you wouldn't want to be targeted by an attack or spell/trap card. In offensive gain decks, since Nurse Reficule is so weak at 1400 attack points and its Defense isn't any better, this card may come in handy, since the opponent has to waste one of his/her resources (unless its book of moon). Also, the opponent most likely won't try to target the monster for an attack, since it's attack is 2800, which is rather high.
Despite all these great combos and uses of this card, Belial can also be an extremely bad card. At Level 8, any duelist should know that you have to tribute two monsters in order to summon this card, which is a pretty high price. With Reasoning, though, this card may come in pretty handy, that is only if you don't draw it before you draw Reasoning. It may be useful in decks that special summon multiple times like DDT or Destiny Hero Beatdown (which aren't too dominate anymore), since it can be used as a weaker DMoC. Overall, this card isn't horrible, but isn't good in a competitive environment either.

Traditional: 1/5 - Not useful at all, except for the fact that it's DARK, but no one would run it just for that reason.
Advanced: 2.5/5 - Not useful either, but can be seen in certain decks.

Art: 5/5 - Man, Kazuki Takahashi draws amazingly well.
Pwii
ok, belial mask of darkness is really not good. it might be decent if the effect could be activated while face-down, but just no. not even in a dark deck. if their's something like a gladiator beast deck that manipulates attacks you can just use ring of magnetism.

1/5 all. not even in a dark deck

Spaceman Tuesday:

Belial Marquis of Darkness is another dark monster that came out of the newest set and is a secret. Well not much to say about this card seeing how the effect is really nothing new to the YuGiOh environment. Don’t get me wrong it’s a good card just not game breaking or game changing. It has the exact same effect as the card named Shift, I believe from PSV not quite sure on that. It’s a Dark monster so you know it has support, but it’s just not that good. With 2800/2400 it has stats that are formidable, but it’s still just not worth the two tributes. Sell it or trade it that’s all I have to say. Though if you insist that you are in love with this card and you think you can abuse it here are some pointers:

1) Use it with a deck that you know that you can easily get the two tributes needed and then have the protection for it, seeing how everything will be fighting against this hunk of cardboard.

2) Make sure you don’t put this in a deck that isn’t about control. This is card is all about that and if you don’t have anything to make the opponent do what you want him/her to do you shouldn’t be using this card.

3) If you can get DMOC you will find that card much more suitable in every deck I can think that you would use this thing in.

4) Can work I GUESS in a DDT build, for whatever reason you would want to use it. Trade-in-able and good to have flipped off the top of your deck with a monster gate. Plasma though is ten times better in it.

Rating:
Tradition: N/A because they wouldn’t use it

Advance: 1.25/5….. Yeah
