Volcanic Rocket

Pyro/Effect/FIRE

1900 ATK/1400 DEF

When this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned, or Special Summoned, you can add 1 “Blaze Accelerator” card from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand.

Currently the second best Sneak Preview Promo, following Grandmaster of the Six Samurai.

When I first saw this card at the Sneak Preview, I considered this as the new 1900 ATK Gadget.  +1 advantage upon summoning was only granted by the Clockwork monsters, Chaos monsters, and very few (mostly restricted/banned) monsters.  I fortunately got 4 copies of this at the Sneak Preview and made a Deck.  Although I had trouble getting Volcanic Shell, I essentially tweaked my Gadget Deck into a primitive Volcanic Monarch deck (gosh, I traded away 3 Rockets!!!!!).  I failed without needed copies of Raiza the Storm Monarch.

Before I forget, with a pile of homework in front of me, this card CAN search out “Tri-Blaze Accelerator.”  Because Rocket searches out a Continuous Spell, it can work well with Spell Shield – Type 8, Chiron the Mage, Judgment of Anubis, and other cards that specifically require a Spell Card to be discarded.  Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, Snipe Hunter, Lightning Vortex…all these cards can just be basically free.

This card can do some serious damage with 1900 ATK.  FIRE often symbolizes destruction, and Volcanic monsters can single-handedly be Raigeki.  Cyber Dragon and Rocket add up to 4000 damage, and if you run Volcanic Scattershot (underrated in my opinion…Raigeki + 1000 damage + 3 Pyro-Type monsters in your Graveyard for 1 card and Blaze Accelerator?)…you will force your opponent to act sooner than they wish to.

Of course, Gravekeeper’s Spy can really be a pain.  Drawing Blaze Accelerator can also be troublesome.  However, there are some risks of bad draws in every deck.

With Volcanic Counter coming out in Phantom Darkness, Volcanic monsters receive a nice boost.  Factor in Royal Firestorm Guard, and you have an amazing deck.

Traditional:  2/5

Advanced:   4/5            This is an amazing card.    Watch out.

Master Tricks
Volcanic Rocket
We're kickin' off these next weeks with reviews of all you duelists' top 10 favorite cards. I feel terrible because of a stupid killer headache and fever especially in this stupid cold weather here in North Carolina. I'll do my best, though. Volcanic Rocket is essentially helpful in Pyro-Fire Decks (Mostly around the Volcanic Monsters and material) and if you run Blaze Accelerator which is not bad since its effect states that you can send a Pyro in your hand to the graveyard to destroy a monster on the field, but you can't declare an attack, absolutely run copies of Volcanic Rocket. Although the side effect kind of hurts, it can change to the duel if you have the right material. Plus, there is no limit to how many times you can use its effect so abuse it as much as you can at the right times. Volcanic Rocket itself is a solid monster with 1900 ATK and 1400 DEF for a level 4 monster. It serves 2 purposes - a nice beatstick and a good searcher for Blaze Accelerator.

Traditional (Almost forgot the name of that format): 2.25/5 (Decent, but chaos still rules here)
Advanced: 3.5/5 (Volcanic/Pyro Decks only)

Monday - Volcanic Rocket

As one of the key cards in the Volcanic Theme, Volcanic Rocket is a four star FIRE/Pyro monster with 1900/1400 stats, which aren't too bad alone. His effect of adding a Blaze Accelerator to your hand when he's summoned isn't at all bad either, since he would most likely be run alongside a triplet of Volcanic Shells. However, because of the cost of wasting a battle phase this turn of Blaze Accelerator, Volcanic Rocket's effect can also be used for thinning the deck or for discard fodder for useful cards like Snipe Hunter and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast. This card can be useful in a Volcanic Monarch deck (as most of you may have already noticed), since it can easily get Volcanic Shell in the Graveyard while inflicting some minor burn, and also just because it's a fairly decent attacker. Being a decent attacker also means that it can stay on the field for more than a turn (most of the time) and can be used for tribute fodder.

Traditional: 2/5 - Beatdown can be seen, but a FIRE attribute isn't that great.
Advanced: 4/5 (in a Volcanic Monarch)

Volcanic Rocket

Alrighty, we are counting down the Top 10 cards for Yugioh in 2007. Today's card is Volcanic Rocket. It's a 1900 attacker that when normal summoned allows you to search your deck or graveyard for a Blaze Accelerator.

This card made the top 10 because of Volcanic Monarchs. The deck type offers a lot of removal and control, which allows the Monarchs to give you the advantage late game. With constant +1's floating around in this deck, it's a fun deck to play. Now with Rocket, the blaze accelerator allows you to destroy
1 monster on your opponent's side of the field by discarding 1 500 attack or lower pyro type monster. So just discard those Volcanic Shells and load up on the accelerator for maximum control. Although, you can't attack if you use the accelerator, it's nice to get rid of a problem monster. And with the Royal Firestorm Guards that just came out with Gladiator's Assault, Volcanics should make an impact since it's basically a Pot of Avarice to load up those shells.

Without the Rocket, Volcanic Monarchs probably wouldn't exist, that's just my opinion. In traditional, I don't see this card being too good, but Advanced format is where this card is at. Only use this card in a Volcanic based deck.

My Ratings:

Traditional: 1.5/5

Dark Paladin
Monday

Well, we are reviewing the top ten cards of the Year 2007, as chosen on average by us here at Pojo over the next two weeks. So, this should be a special treat for you readers!

#10

Volcanic Rocket

I'm fairly surprised we put in a card that is specific to a theme in the top 10, but whatever...

Volcanic Rocket is a great card for a currently decent theme. This theme does have more support coming in the next set, so it is good, but I'm not going to argue with our list.

Volcanic Rocket...sickest picture ever. All right, let's talk about versatility. You can add one Blaze Accelerator from your Deck or Graveyard to your Hand whenever you Normal, Flip, or Special Summon Volcanic Rocket.

That's an almost guarenteed +1 for you every time you play Volcanic Rocket, unless you have all your Blaze Accelerators in your Hand and/or on your side of the Field. To top things off, Volcanic Rocket has 1900 attack, so he can certainly hold his own for a little while.

It's good support for the Volcanic theme, and I would love to see a successful Volcanic Deck top 8 at a Shonen Jump or a Regional or something, but until then...

Volcanic Rocket

Welcome to the Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh! Countdown of '07! Today we have a real bombshell for you in Volcanic Rocket. This is the card that makes Volcanic decks rock. What made Stratos so good is that it can search out a card from your deck in order to give you an extra card to do battle with or whatever. Rocket does much the same thing, searching out a Blaze Accelerator or Tri-Blaze Accelerator from your deck OR graveyard. The graveyard trick is something that even Stratos cannot do. It is essential in threes for the Volcanic deck that is running around. Did I mention that it had 1900 ATK and can smashi pretty much any non tribute monster in the face? Combine this card with Royal Firestorm Guards and you can have an endless destruction engine as well as constant advantage.
