General Zorpa Dark Hunter

I don't really like conditional monsters. They tend to be rather, well, conditional and rather temperamental when put into a deck. Here we have Dark Hunter, who gets effects based on the number of DARK monsters in your graveyard. The facedown clearing effect is nice, as is the 400 ATK boost, but in a DARK deck you are trying to stay at 3 DARK's in the graveyard.

He can be useful after DAD has come and gone, but he is in fact an early game card. You need to quickly get monster in the graveyard, as most people tend to set monsters on their opening turn. This makes it really hard to get him to work effectively, and the best word that I can find or it is awkward. I think that it can be fun, but not really has a place in any constructed deck atm.

MWAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!! I'M FREEEEEE!!!!!!!!! Oh, hi. I'm yami pwii, and I've come to ruin pwii's reputation by writing a terrible review. Dark hunter is about average for DAD, but frankly there's better cards. It would be a good side option however, because people would be trying to get more darks in the grave since they know what's coming.

2/5 trad.

4/5 adv. side deck DAD

Todayʼs card up for review is Dark Hunter. I feel this card is seriously underrated. With all these decks using massive drawing, you can easily get you dark monster count in your graveyard quite easily. You should also be able to control the amount of darks in your graveyard with stuff like Pot of Avarice, Soul Release, and The Transmigration Prophesy. You should never need 5+ darks in your graveyard, as I see that effect not being handy too too much. I really like the attack boost though. 2000 attack monster for being a 4 star is pretty cool. Of course, I would not suggest using this in a big tournament deck. There are better options out there!

Dark Hunter

This card is sorta neat but can prove to be a huge dissapointment if drawn early game when there arent many monsters in ones graveyard. If there are, well it can become a 2000 ATK beatstick, but even still, it is truly a lackluster effect that is overshadowed by many better Dark monster picks for the typical dark deck. Even if one was to accomplish having 5 or more Dark Monsters in their graveyard, the effect is situational according to how many face down monsters your opponent has. In this meta, facedowns arent even all that prevalent -at least not enough to warrant a real use out of this card. Could be a fun surprise in a casual deck.

Traditional: 2/5
Advanced: 1/5 Early game dead draw and still somewhat lackluster when its other effects kick in.

Ultra Rare/Ultimate Rare

New Dark support. Not nearly as good as its predecessors but not completely terrible. Being Dark makes it Allure of Darkness bait and being a Fiend makes it usable for Dark Necrofear. If you're playing anything with a lot of Dark monsters, chances are, you'll fill the graveyard quickly so you'll never have to deal with it's first effect. D.D. Crow can help a lot with that. The second effect makes it a LV4 2000ATK monster. Nothing special right now but is definitely a benefit. The third effect only gets rid of your opponent's face-down monsters unfortunately. If it destroyed them all, it would be near-playable. Right now, there aren't many face down monsters it'll be able to hit. If face down monsters become again then I could see this potentially being teched in Dark decks. For now, it's mostly going to sit in your binder or shoebox.

Dark Hunter is another one of those dark monsters that needs some darks in the graveyard in order to work. With one or less dark monsters in the graveyard he loses 400 ATK. The only way I can see this part of the effect being good is against a stall deck. If they have Messanger of Peave on the field, this card will be able to attack under it, but if they have a monster it will be a Des Koala or a Legendary Jujitsu Master anyways.

From 2 to 4 dark monsters Dark Hunter will go up to 2000 ATK. He can be used for Deck Devastation Virus if the opponent has a lot of little monsters. 2000 ATK will get over most defense monsters and most attack monsters, but the ones being played now will get over Dark Hunter's ATK with Honest or some kind of Waboku against a Gladiator Beast.

The third effect is always the best one. You can send this card to the graveyard to destroy all face down monsters your opponent has. To make the best of this effect, you could either play Book of Eclipse or Swords of Concealing Light then use Dark Hunter's effect. It would work great against Samurai's since they swarm. He isn't going to be a SJC top 16 deck card, but at least he is good in casual duels.

Tuesday

Dark Hunter is a very interesting card, quite possibly the best care we review this week, but that still doesn't mean this card is good, by any means.  Anyway, we have a Level 4 Dark monster, appropriately enough, who is a Fiend with 1600 attack (almost solid) and 400 defense.

Now, depending on the number of Dark monsters you have in your Graveyard, the effect of Dark Hunter changes.  If you have one or less, this card loses 400 attack points, dropping to 1200, which is horrid.

Next, if you have two, three, or four, this card gains 400 attack, increasing to a solidly impressive 2000, and, at least, in theory, giving you a reasonable beatstick, for however long he happens to survive.

Finally, if you have five or more Dark monsters in the Graveyard, you can send this card to the Graveyard to destroy all face-down monsters your opponent controls.  Certainly good, especially if you can destroy more than one monster and get a little advantage out of it.

Yesterday, I wondered why the card was a Super Rare...today, I find myself wondering why this card is an Ultra Rare?
