Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Cosmic Fortress Gol'Gar

"Alien Ammonite" + 1 or more non-Tuner "Alien" monsters
Once per turn, you can select any number of face-up Spell and Trap Cards. Return those cards to their owners' hands, and distribute new A-Counters among monsters on the field equal to the number of cards returned. Once per turn, you can remove 2 A-Counters from anywhere on the field to destroy 1 card your opponent controls.

Cosmic Fortress Gol'Gar...one hell of a Synchro Monster for the Alien Deck...who is a Light attribute monster and a Reptile, and only Level 5, who has 2600 attack (great for Level 5) and 1800 defense.

Now, Cosmic Fortress Gol'Gar is Synchro Summoned specifically with Alien Ammonite and one or more non-Tuner Alien monster, but thanks to Alien Ammonite, that is no problem, as you will have everything you need all ready available.

Once per turn, you can select any number of face-up Magic or Trap cards and return them to their owner's respective Hands, and distribute new A-Counters among monsters on the Field for each card returned. This is a mixed bag...your opponent will see this, and odds are, work around it.

They don't need to play any face up Magic or Trap cards, and you can't necessarily depend on whatever you may (or may not) have available to you. Furthermore, you can remove two A-Counters from anywhere on the Field to destroy one card your opponent controls.

Removing things, especially counters to destroy your opponents cards is great. Two counters for one card though isn't so great...for a more reliable effect, this should be a one counter per card effect...and this card doesn't provide enough other counters to likely take advantage of that.

Ratings:

Traditional: 2/5

Advanced: 3/5 Just average, despite being ridiculously easy to bring
out.

General Zorpa Cosmic Fortress Gol'Gar

This is the best Alien Synchro monster. Well he IS the only one. Anyway, he has impressive stats. 2600 ATK and 1800 DEF on a level 5 LIGHT Alien is excellent. He is the best level 5 Synchro monster witout a doubt just by virtue of his ATK. He does have a unique Synchro Material monster. He has to be Synchro Summoned with Alien Ammonite and a non-Tuner Alien. This makes him hard to Summon outside of the Alien deck, but that is where he belongs.

Gol'Gar's abilitites kind of make the Alien deck. Once per turn you can return all face up Spell or trap cards on the field to their owner's hands and put new A-Counters on cards on the field equal to the amount of cards you returned. As Aliens have a lot of face up spell and trap cards like Code A Ancient Ruins, A Cell Incubator and their Field Spell, you can really lay teh smackdown on the opponent with the Counters.

His second effect is even better. You can remove 2 A Counters from anywhere in order to destroy one card your opponent controls. You can only do this once per turn, but it is an easy way to destroy cards. OCmbine this with Planet Pollutant Virus, Mysterious Triangle and Cell Explosion Virus, you have a bunch of kill cards ready to go so that not even the mighty Stardust Dragon can stop them all.

Basically you play 3 of these in an Alien deck. No questions asked. There is no way that the Alien deck could function as well as it does without Gol'Gar. If you are building the deck, pick some of these guys up, they are pretty cheap and really fun to play around with.

Traditional-1/5
Advanced-5/5 (in an Alien deck alone!)

Cosmic Fortress Gol'gar ...

I've pulled like 4 of this thing, and each and every time i moaned and groaned ... I dont want this darn thing, and neither will anyone else, so it even sucks as a trade ... but is it REALLY that bad a card?

Well 2600 ATK on a 5 star Synchro is pretty excellent. Light is very well supported attribute. He's a Reptile, but since he's an alien, it goes without saying ... So his stats alone make him pretty ok ... His effect? - not too too bad. The fact that u can return your OWN face-up spells and traps to get his effect, means that as long as your deck is constructed with him in mind, you should have plenty occasion to do so and stack up on A counters. 2 of which can then be used to destroy 1 card ur opponent controls. That's really really good. And if u still have counters left over after that, u can use 2 of them to special summon the Alien Overlord we reviewed earlier20this week. Get a nice bit of swarm going.

the only thing that takes away from Gol'gar is his lack f versatility. He can't be synchro'd except by use of a specific monster. Albeit - a GOOD monster, but a monster, nonetheless, that nobody will ever be playing unless they are playing a strict Alien deck. For the Alien deck - this guy is the Gold AND the Silver ... but outside of it?

Today we finish off the week with our Alien Synchro friend, Cosmic Fortress Gol'Gar. I've already mentioned in our Alien Ammonite review that Gol'Gar is a level 5 Synchro monster. Once per turn it can return any number of face-up spell or trap cards to their owners hand, and distributes A-Counters among monsters on the field equal to the number of returned cards. Also once per turn you can remove 2 A-Counters from anywhere on the field to destroy 1 card your opponent controls. With this you can abuse cards like Messenger of Peace, "A" Cell Breeding Device and a few other cards.

Well looking at the effect, the card is pretty awesome. 2600 ATK which means it can get over Stardust Dragon and if you manage to survive being hit with Dark Strike Fighters effect, you can destroy it with Gol'Gars effect or you can attack it and both go down. Gol'Gar is a solid monster and just what Aliens needed to knock their playability up a notch. As I've also previously stated, Aliens only need some more speed for it to really be tier 1.

This card is a must for any Alien deck especially if you are using Alien Ammonite, its an awesome card, awesome art and its pretty solid. Personally one of my favorite cards.
