Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Chimeratech Fortress Dragon
#Jump-EN031

"Cyber Dragon" + 1 or more Machine-Type monsters. This monster cannot be used as a Fusion Material Monster. You can only Special Summon this card from your Extra Deck by sending the above cards from either side of the field to the Graveyard. (You do not use "Polymerization".) The original ATK of this card is equal to 1000 x the number of Fusion Material Monsters used to Special Summon it.

Chimeratech Fortress Dragon is a card long coveted by the American Yugioh world, but our game also has the habit of completely dismissing cards when we get them so long after we need(ed) them in our game.

I don't believe this is the case here. Chimeratech Fortress Dragon or CFD is a "Fusion" monster that can only be Special Summoned from the Extra Deck by sending Cyber Dragon plus as many other Machine-type monsters as are available on either side of the Field.

That's interesting in itself. You can use Machine-type monsters from either side of the Field, but one does have to be a Cyber Dragon. Now, you probably aren't going to see many Machine monsters on your opponent's Field, maybe a random Tuner or something.

You can't just play a bunch of Machines and hope for the best here, you need a reasonably constructed Deck for CFD to be effective, but it can work well. Future Fusion, Power Bond, even Super Polymerization can be quite well for Fusion here, so enjoy if you can.

Todays card is Overdragons brother, Chimeratech Fortress Dragon. While not completely as good as the original Chimeratech fusion, its still a very very useful card, especially and probably mostly in a Gadget deck. There is a lot you can do with this card however. DNA Surgery with Cyber Dragons and Proto-Cyber Dragons, seeing as how you can also use your opponents Machine-Type monsters as well as your own. While Cyber Dragon is limited, using this card as well as Chimeratech Overdragon becomes a tad bit harder to do, even though Overdragon still has Future Fusion and Overload Fusion. Since pretty much no deck not based on bringing out Fortress Dragon, almost no deck would use Proto-Cyber Dragons, so Cyber Dragon alone it is. Gadgets is also pretty much the only Machine based deck that still does well, maybe Ancient Gears too, depending on the build. Fortress Dragon adds some extra muscle to Gadgets, since their main hitter is Thunder King Rai-Oh or Doomcaliber Knight(for those few who have 3). Both Chimeratech Overdragon and Chimeratech Fortress Dragon are formittable cards that mostly fit into machine based decks and thats about it, but in those decks the cards work wonders, obviously, and more times than not give them the extra boost they may need to get out of a tough situation.

Parallel Fates Chimeratech Fortress Dragon….Once upon a time, this card would have been wrecking havoc in YGO…however, that time was about 5 formats ago. Long-story, short…this card came far too late for TCG players. The effect itself is not bad at all, as this card actually has potential to do 2 things – push for massive damage, and monster destruction.

Back then, when Troop-Dupe was dominating the meta, this card would have been awesome. Now though, the only deck you’ll see utilizing Cyber Dragon is potentially SynCat, even then, not all variations use it. After the Cyber Dragon part though, the problem is what other machines will you see on the field? The only other machine type monsters that see play these days are Dekoichi, Cyber Valley and Black Salvo. The only one that will last on the field for more than a single turn is Valley.

With the extra-deck cap now at 15 cards, putting this card in is a waste of space.

Tuesday: Chimeratech Fortress Dragon

I have seen a lot of users ask why a copy of this card is included in every top player’s extra deck. The reason is simple.

If you are using Cyber Dragon, the card lets you +1 the opponent’s Dark Strike Fighter or Cyber Valley. The effect does not require the monsters to be on your side of the field. If your opponent is foolish enough to bring out a Cyber Dragon and a DSF or Valley or Trooper or Dekoichi or anything, you can simply bring out Fortress Dragon.

The effect is situational, but using it even one time in an SJC or Regionals to take game is good enough for me. 15 slots for extras is quite a bit so you can definitely fit this one in.

Chimeratech Fortress Dragon ...

I actually like this card a lot. It never really made much noise when it came out, possibly because most people dont even bother with Fusion Monsters anymore?
Which such limited room in your extra deck, most of the space is reserved for the overall faster and reliable Synchros ....
But the Fortress Dragon is pretty awesome. Mostly? - cuz u dont need polymerization or any other outside card to special summon him ...
Just think of Cyber Dragon as a Tuner, and every other machine around as fuel to get this thing going. The very best part? - u can use your opponents monsters as well! And to ensure ur opponent has a healthy crop of machines to chip in - DNA Surgery! At 1000 ATK points per monster - this guy can finish your opponent in one shot.

I think it's a very good monster that just really got lost in the shuffle. If someone is dedicated to Machine's? - they should totally fill up 3 slots of their extra deck with the Fortress.
