General Zorpa Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest

Oh, woe is me! We finally get Baboon at 2 and we lose his best effect. To start things off, we have a level 7 2600 EARTH Beast, which is actually fairly average for a level 7 monster. Beast doesn't help a whole lot, but since he IS the support for Beast cards, we can forgive him for not having such awesome friends.

Whenever another Beast type monster is destroyed, you can pay 1000 lifepoints to Special SUmmon him from the graveyard or your hand. Very nice. This used to mean that he could be Special Summoned after a monster was destroyed in battle, but alas, Konami has changed the ruling on that, meaning that Battle is out of range for Baboon's effect.

That means that only kill effects like Dark Armed Dragon and Smashing Ground can trigger his effect. Not so nice. He can be very useful, but not as much as we would have liked him to be
when combined with Manticore of Darkness and Rescue Cat for Beast domination.

SO instead of being an incredible card, he is just good, which I guess is ok, but I am still crying on the inside...

Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest …

There’s something inherently frightening about a Green Baboon, no? … and this guy sorta resembles Kalibak (Darkseid’s son), doesn’t he? … no? … ah well …

Anywho … There’s a REASON this guy was Limited before … not quite sure why they brought him back to Semi-Limited … but whatevz. I don’t make the rules. 2600 ATK is decent for a Level 7, as u will most likely be special summoning him anyway, so tributing is a non-issue. 1800 DEF is respectable as well. Should he be forced into defense position, it will usually take more than the sta ndard 4 star to run over him. Earth-attribute is well supported and fitting since he is a Beast-type. But then when u get to his effect, u can see what makes him such a scary card.

For 1000 LP u can special summon him when a beast type monster is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard. That can be by battle OR by special effect, and you can special summon the Green Baboon either from your hand OR from the Graveyard. And if u are thinking that 1000 LP is too high a cost to keep paying – think again. The obvious and overdone combo is using him with Nimble Momonga – u GAIN 1000 LP from losing Momonga, and then use that 1000 to pay for Green Baboon. It makes doing things like Torrential Tribute an AWFUL idea on an opponent’s part but great on yours, as u can even pop your weaker beasts yourself to make way for special summoning him.

A monster that refuses to stay dead is a great thing. Attached to a 2600 ATK body is an even greater thing. There isn't much more to say other than=2 0– if u can get a hold of him – u play him in your Beast deck. No question. Arguably one of the best Beasts in the game.
