Demise--King of Armageddon, remember him?  Well if you weren't playing the game 3-4 years ago, you might not ever know who he is.  Demise is a Level 8 Ritual monster, who destroys everyone and everything on the Field but himself, for the cost of 2000 Lifepoints.  Then you get at least a free 2400 attack shot.  Demise is actually still one hell of a card, but the huge and obvious problem is his being a Ritual.  With the Synchros running the show, the Ritual would have to be a lot better than this, and he could arguably be the best out there.  A Ritual is just too slow, and they were slow before.

Everyone remembers the Demise OTK, which kicked off the Shadow of Infinity release. By using Advanced Ritual Art to dump two Insect Knights and summon Demise, you could nuke the field and use those Knights to summon Doom Doser. A Megamorph would end the game.

But with ARA at one and these cards useless by themselves, the OTK is pretty much dead. Cards like Brionac (and many other Synchros) punish Rituals, even through their new support. With cards like Solemn Warning running around, Ritual summoning has gotten worse and worse, and the new Ritual support cards can't do much about that.

2/5
Art: Matches Ruin, Queen of Oblivion.
Fun Fact: Also matches Garlandolf and Northwemko!
Tomorrow: Remember when people thought Chaotic would rival YuGiOh?

Oh, how the mighty have fallen... Demise, King of Armageddon used to be a format defining card. He had his own deck dedicated to having him assist in OTKing the opponent. He's practically the sole reason Advanced Ritual Art ever was restricted, too, although Demise himself was only limited several formats after his reign of terror.

Now he's returned to unlimited status, and nobody seems to care. Some fun decks may be able to abuse him once again, but his effect is just too underwhelming now. With cards like Judgment Dragon or Black Rose Dragon having similar effects with lower costs and easier summoning conditions, why use Demise? Even all the recent ritual support like the Djinns doesn't do much to help Demise. Those are better suited to control cards like Relinquished.

I don't mean to say Demise is terrible, because he's not. He's simply outclassed.
