All righty friends, over the next three weeks, we're going to be looking at cards from Return of the Duelist! (We'll get to Ban List cards after that, I promise, in response to the e-mails I keep getting about that). Today we look at Block Golem, who is a fun little card for a Rock player. This is a Level 3, Earth attributed Monster, with 1000 attack and 1500 defense, but you probably won't use this guy for anything but his effect. If you only have Earth Monsters in your Graveyard (no other type, you're still allowed to have other cards) you can tribute this card to Special Summon two Level 4 or lower Rock Monsters (from said Graveyard). No restriction as to attack or defense position, I like that. The Monsters effects can't be activated in the turn you do this, A +1 is almost always a good thing, and it is here, most definitely.

It's time for the top 10, err, 11 cards of Return of the Duelist. The All mighty, knowing and golfing Pojo has acquired out lists of top 10 cards from the set and smushed them into a list of 11. See how mighty his hole-in-one-ness is? Ok, at the bottom of the list, is a card that i might have overlooked, Block Golem. This guy makes Rock types decks a lot stronger and playable. An EARTH/Rock type, with 1000 ATK and 1500 DEF, those stats don't fend off too many monsters. If all the monsters in your graveyard are EARTH, you can tribute this card you control to target 2 level 4 Rock-type monsters, except Block Golem. Special Summon those two monsters. But their effects that activate on the field cannot be activated this turn. Nice. Right off the bat, Barrier Statue of the Drought is the first Rock monster I would consider as one of the targets. Heck you can fling Rock monsters at your opponent with Rock Bombardment to inflict 500 damage for sending a Rock Type from your deck to your graveyard. That combos well with Block Golem. Get those monsters out of the graveyard and you can Xyz or even synchro for whatever you need. Do watch for cards like DD Crow and Torrential Tribute. This is a great card for Rocks.

Hey all. Sorry to have been absent, but had issues with my car commiting suicide on me when the timing belt broke (wrecking the engine) after spending $1700 to fix all the breaks, steering, 2 tires and the accesory belt wheel, so I had to junk it and deal with fixing a replacement car, so wish me luck with this new one. Anyways, we're on a top 10 countdown, so let's get to it.

I want to make a Legos joke, but I don't want to be a blockhead, so I'll skip it. BG belongs in a rock deck, and a Valkyrion deck is a good one to add this guy into as it can bring back two of them to play, allowing for the the big guy to hit the field a little more easily. He can also beef up a Megarock Dragon deck, or he can be used in a Giga Plate the Earth Giant deck. Any card that lets you gain more field presence is always a good thing and this guy does it better than most, even though the monsters lose effects that trigger when they hit the field. Despite BG limiting the summoning to fellow Rock-type monsters, he's still a great card for the archetype.

Block Golem

A very welcome addition to Rock decks, and gives the deck something it could never do before, and that is being able to make an xyz off of one card. Rocks are generally known for playing similar to a stun deck, and now has even more fire power. Thr draw back is really nice to see on a card, dont want a card being too broken, and it being specific makes it exclusive. A little more support, and this type may actually be able to go somewhere!
