Fire King Avatar Barong kinda looks like Lava Battleguard in armor who now carries swords instead of his club.  Anyway, Fire, Level 4, Beast-Warrior, all good things.  1800 attack, also a good thing for a Level 4 and a reprehensible 200 defense (although that fits the Flamvell theme).  If a face up Fire King Monster you control is destroyed by a card effect (again, could even be your own) except during the Damage Step, you can Special Summon Barong from your Hand.  There's plenty of destruction effects around, that shouldn't be difficult to accomplish.

During the next Standby Phase after this card was destroyed by a card effect, you can add a Fire King Monster, other than this card, from your Deck to your Hand.  We heard something reminiscent of that earlier this week, didn't we?  Again, like referenced earlier this week, having to wait until that next Standby Phase sucks.  Especially here as you're waiting to gain a resource.  Like before, the weakness involved here is that if destroyed in Battle, or even removed from play, than you get nothing.  I mean, he's fine as an attacker, and the first effect isn't bad I suppose, but this just isn't good.

Welcome to the Pojo Card of the Day once again! Today we will be looking at the second new monster in the Fire King structure deck. Every structure tends to have it's own searcher, so let's see this deck's: Fire King Avatar Barong!

Fire King Avatar Barong
Level 4/ FIRE/ Beast-Warrior

Before we go into the effect of this monster, I would like to discuss something else first. What makes a monster good? For many monsters, this is determined first by the effect, then by the type and attribute. However, Fire monsters are a different issue.

The first thing you do to determine a fire monster's usefulness nowadays is to take a look at it's defense points. If it has 200, then it instantly becomes a better card. Got to thank Rekindling for that one!

So, with that established, we can see Barong is quite useful as a rekindling target. So, what else can this card do?

So, if Garunix blows itself up by Onslaught, you can basically summon this for free from your hand. This also works from other methods such as Dark Hole or your own Circle of the Fire Kings; however one of the most obvious times it will happen will be from Onslaught (Plus, it's the best time to do it as well!).

In addition to summoning itself, it also has the fun effect of adding a Fire-King card to your hand if he is destroyed by a card effect. Onslaught and Circle work really well for this effect; and allow you to break even with Circle or even plus with Onslaught. However, the main use is to combo this with our Garunix+Onslaught play. Once Garunix destroys himself during the end-phase, you special summon this. Then, when Garunix comes back and destroys everything, you get your search. Oh, this will also search out your spell cards like another Onslaught or Circle; allowing for some back-up plays!

Essentially, this card is consistency; and consistency is Always good. Once we get Yaksha... this will get really good.

Generic searcher and consistency for the Fire-King deck, what's not to like?

I think we have said enough that the Fire Kings could be useful in the traditional setting.

Pretty cool looking. It takes the deity look and mixes it with Flames. I am highly interested in all of these Fire-Based decks now-a-days haha.

Fire King Avatar Barong is the second (of currently three) Fire King Monsters released as part of the newest Structure Deck Onslaught of the Fire Kings.  Fire King Avatar Barong has two effects like the rest of his archetype, but sadly both require Fire Kings. The first allows you to special summon this card is a Fire King is destroyed by a card effect. His second effect is searcher ability for Fire Kings. Sadly both effects suffer because there are currently 3 Fire Kings available and his second effect prevents yu from getting another Fire King Avatar Barong so you have 2 choices. On the plus side his low DEF means Rekindling is an option with this card.

Overall his effects are solid but just not worth it at the moment due to the lacklustre support for this archetype.
