Goblindbergh

In sports terms, this is the equivalent of the journeyman. Goblindbergh is the upgraded Marauding Captain that has made its way into the subconscious of all Yu-Gi-Oh players as “that monster that can summon another monster from the hand. What’s it called again? Oh right, Goblindbergh. I need 3.” There are other monsters, of course, that can do what this flying creature can do. Tin Goldfish comes to mind, but Goblindbergh is the Earth/Warrior type that can do it, and that’s what he’ll always be. He’s quite good at what he does, too.

Right now, he’s being used in Hero decks and other rogue decks. Tomorrow? Who knows? But what I do know is that this monster will be around for a very long time. It has everything necessary to ensure its survival for the next decade, and it will make several appearances in top decks along the way. You can never underestimate a simple effect that basically lets you normal summon two monsters instead of one.

  • This card is used as a card advantage neutral way of Summoning an XYZ or Synchro monster.
  • You would still be summoning the XYZ/Synchro with two cards, but you'd be able to get out 2 monsters on one Normal Summon.
  • This card has been good for some decks because it relies on an opening XYZ play and this card helps the consistency of doing such.
  • This card is really generic since over the years there have been lots of similar cards to this to assist LV4 XYZ's.
  • This was a very good card a few years ago, but now we're in the Pendulum era.
  • The meta is different now and none of the high tier decks need this card (it could be good in some low tier and rogue decks)

2/5

T-REX Goblindbergh

This is one card that crops up from time to time, or actually, whenever Rank 4 type Decks need a card that provides them with a way with which to help them make that first Rank 4 for the turn easier. I say this because Goblindbergh needs to be Normal Summoned in order to gain its effect, essentially making this a card that you Summon at the start of your Summons for the turn.

Because Golblindbergh is a Warrior type, it is searchable via RotA, and this makes it easier to get into your hand earlier on in a Duel.

Rating: 2.5. Useful because it helps R4 Decks, and useful because its a Warrior and thus searchable. Currently though, better Rank 4 enabling cards exist, that said, this is still quite useful.

Goblindbergh is a Level 4 Earth Warrior-type monster with 1400 Atk and 0 Def. This is an excellent Rota target in any deck that this guy goes in. I say any deck because Goblindbergh being the all powerful Level 4 can Special Summon any Level 4 or lower monster from the Hand in either Atk or Def position when Goblindbergeh is Normal Summoned. If all that goes through, Goblindbergh throws himself to Def position. So any Level 4 or lower tuner can open up a diverse amount of Synchro plays. A fellow Level 4 Special Summon opens up Rank 4 monsters. It's also great that none of the Special Summoned monster's effects are negated. They can both be tributed for a summon as well, but only if there are extra Normal Summons available. The sheer versatility of this monster is amazing, and the downsides of being easily negated and 0 Def don't detract from its utility. Happy Friday!
