Top 10 Cards of 2016 - #4 - ABC-Dragon Buster
- #SDKS-EN041

"A-Assault Core" + "B-Buster Drake" + "C-Crush Wyvern" Must first be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by banishing the above cards you control and/or from your Graveyard. (You do not use "Polymerization".) Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can discard 1 card, then target 1 card on the field; banish it. During your opponent's turn: You can Tribute this card, then target 3 of your banished LIGHT Machine-Type Union monsters with different names; Special Summon them (this is a Quick Effect).

ABC – Dragon Buster

The big baddie that everyone knew would be somewhere on this list, ABC – Dragon Buster comes in at #4 and the highest rated monster card. ABC was only rated 8th on my list, behind 3 other monsters. To some, this might sound absurd, but I honestly have always felt that ABC owes a large chunk of its success to Union Hangar, which I rated as my #12 card of 2016 and almost put higher. Considering Hangar had up to 6 deck presence (3 Hangar and 3 Terraforming), ABC was granted so much power and consistency over, say, the new Magnet Warriors, which weren’t granted that one ridiculous spell card they needed (Magnetic Field doesn’t even compare). This is supported by the recent restriction of Union Hangar in the OCG. ABC is still at 3.

But I digress. ABC is without a doubt a peerless monstrosity. It’s quite literally a BLS in its sheer dominance and ease to summon, but without having to run it in the deck. It ruled the OCG with impunity for a time and is still a force to be reckoned with in both the OCG and TCG. And considering how many different decks there are right now that are producing results in big tournaments, especially in the OCG, there’s a really good chance it can stay relevant, even with Hangar getting hit in Japan. So, ABC definitely deserves a top 10 spot for 2016, but I think #4 is way too high.

Letters of the alphabet: A, B, C! Our #4 card on the Top 10 Cards of 2016 is ABC-Dragon Buster!

Position on my list: N/A

Like Cyber Dragon Infinity, ABC-Dragon Buster just barely missed a spot on my list. This card is pretty much the reason ABC is a top Deck, as a 3000 ATK beater that also has a banishing Quick Effect and the ability to dodge anything on the opposing turn and replace itself with three floaters is insane.

The existence of multiple Dragon Busters is one of the reason ABC has such an absurd grind game (along with Union Hangar being a +2 on the first turn and +1 every subsequent turn). Dragon Buster is the heart and soul of the Deck’s power, and while I can see why some would like it Limited, doing so will hurt the Deck too much, so hitting the other form of advantage (Union Hangar) seems like the better option.

But regardless, ABC-Dragon Buster is one of the best cards to come out this year, and one of the best Fusion monsters ever printed.

Hello Pojo Fans,

ABC-Dragon Buster comes in at #4 for our countdown. This monster has reinforced the idea of playing one in your own Extra Deck alongside Ghost Reaper and Winter Cherries in your main deck to have a counter to dealing with it.

This fusion is very easy to Special Summon, needing the monsters (A, B, and C) on the field or in the grave. A 1-for-1 banish during either turn is great in getting rid of your opponents cards and avoiding any destruction backlash. The best effect of Buster Dragon may be its ability to save itself during your opponents turn. Tribute to Special Summon back A, B, and C, in any position. If you combo it with XYZ, those monsters are targets for this effect as well. After you've tributed this monster you can still Special Summon it from the graveyard by any means as long as you Special Summoned it correctly the first time.

It has a lot going for it and support behind it. It could be what Union-based decks needed to be competitive.

Not too long ago we reviewed a card that scored a 4.67/5. I gave ABC-Dragon Buster a 5/5 for being strong, defensive, and offensive. Since we are all sure that this monster will be banned or limited in the near future, owning one becomes imperative. Just one in the extra deck allows players to better utilize ghost cherries banishing effect. Since 4 is my favorite number, I am ok with this monster being in the 4 out of 10 spot this year, but I had placed it higher personally.

#4--ABC-Dragon Buster. Simply awesome newer card in the year, and one that rightfully belongs on the latter portion of our list. ABC Dragon Buster is superior to XYZ Dragon Cannon in every way. First, it's still an untraditional Fusion, brought out by removing the necessary pieces from the Field from play.  It has 3000 attack instead of 2800 and has two effects.  Instead of discarding to destroy a card like XYZ, you discard to target and remove a card on the Field from play.  Also during your opponent's turn, you can tribute this card to bring the pieces back.  Or any combination there of.  These guys made a pretty immediate splash on the tournament scene, and with good reason.  Enjoy it now, we're gonna have to see what happens on the next Ban go around, but I can't see this being left unrestricted entirely.
