Mirror Wall

Day 4 of Donald Trump's massive array of beautiful walls week.  Today, we have an iconic Mai card which was absolutely broken in the anime.  When it came out, it required an expensive 2000 LP payment (perhaps the cost should have only been 1000).  At the very least, it could protect you and destroy an opponent's monster for one turn.  When Shrink came out this card was obsolete.  The times have just changed though, and right now Mirror Wall is too slow.  As for it's effectiveness of border protection, people might be so scared of their own reflection, that they'll turn back and leave.  But mirrors are prone to shattering, smudging and collecting dust.  The U.S. might have to fill it's old Agent Orange canisters with windex and give the Mirror Wall a good spray from time to time.

We continue Wall Week with one of Mai Valentine’s most powerful Trap Cards from the anime: Mirror Wall. She used it in her Duel against Yugi during the Duelist Kingdom Finals, and it made it so that every monster that Yugi attacked with had its ATK reduced by half. This card was rather powerful to say the least.

When brought over into the real card game, Mirror Wall did the exact same thing, except that it was also given a 2000 LP maintenance cost. This was presumably to keep it from being overpowered, as an effect like this would’ve been very powerful in older Yu-Gi-Oh!, especially since Spell/Trap hate was much harder to come by (all of the most popular options outside of Dust Tornado were Limited as well).

These days it’s a question as to whether or not the card would even be relevant without the maintenance cost, but I guess we’ll never know. Attack reduction is powerful, especially at the scale that Mirror Wall does it, but battle traps haven’t been favorable for a while.

Regardless, that 2000 LP maintenance cost stopped this card from ever doing anything relevant.

Mirror Wall

It’s crazy reading some of the COTD reviews from 2005, when this card was last reviewed. Those were simpler times. Right now, this trap is garbage, but there’s always a twinkling of hope for character cards, and this was a Mai Valentine special. I can’t imagine this trap will ever see deck presence ever again, though.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Mirror Wall was one of Mai's trap cards in the show, but there are some differences between that Mirror Wall and this one.

Halve the ATK of any opponents monster attacking as long as this card is on the field...at the cost of 2000LP each Standby Phase. That last cost is what kills this cards playability in a long term sense. This may help prevent your opponent from swarming for the turn, and you can chain it like Shrink, but it won't be staying around for very long. As a Continuous Trap it is vulnerable.

Use Shrink, it avoids destruction and if destroyed you can chain it and get something for your loss. This can save your bacon for one turn, but there are better cards to do that.

Our 4th and flimsiest Wall is Mirror Wall. This card sucks. It costs 2000 Life Points each turn just to have opponent's monsters halve their attack. Run Waboku instead of this.
