FLIP: You can change all other face-up monsters on the field to face-down Defense Position. You can only use this effect of "Subterror Behemoth Ultramafus" once per turn. When a face-up monster you control is flipped face-down, if you control no face-up monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand in Defense Position. Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position.

Subterror Behemoth Ultramafus

How this monster got a Level 12 designation escapes me. No monster with a level that high should have 1800 DEF if its main ability is to go back into defense mode to reactivate its effect. I digress. Of the Subterror monsters released so far, Subterror Behemoth Ultramafus is among the least exciting.

What boggles me about this monster is that his effect would pretty much only be worthy of his level if his DEF was off the charts, thereby making your opponent struggle to attack him while he’s face down. Like, if he had the 5000 DEF of Master Dragon Knight or FGD. 1800 DEF is just downright disappointing! One single A-Assault Core attack takes this guy out.

The Subterror theme isn’t nearly complete yet, but I have a hard time believing Ultramafus will be a large part of the final product. Changing monsters face down is good, but this is an incredibly slow way to do it, not to mention he has zero possibilities for synchro and nearly zero possibilities for XYZ. He’s definitely not the best, and his low DEF probably keeps him from having any sort of grand future.

Subterrors are interesting. Behemoth Ultramafus is a Level 12 Earth Pyro-type monster with 3000 Atk and 1800 Def. Um, Level 12 with Level 8 stats? not good. 5000 Def minimum. Anyway. The Flip Effect is once per turn to turn everything else face up to face-down def position. Lightning laughs all over Flip Effects, but since this is the core of Subterrors, I'm not going to fault Ultramafus for having a Flip Effect. Another useful effect is that it can flip itself face down once per turn. This is useful if you want to use the effect, attack, and then flip it back to use again later. The final effect is to Special Summon itself in def position from the hand when one of your face up monsters gets flipped and you have no face up monsters. After all those effects, we still come to an average rating for Ultramafus. It's strong within its Subterror theme, but the deck is just not competitive.
