Book of Taiyou

Taiyou means Sun in Japanese. As a complement to Book of Moon, it has the opposite effect of flipping a monster face-up. Although there were numerous limitations that prevented this card from being as useful as it's lunar counterpart. As a normal spell, rather than quick-play spell, it lacked in chainability. It maybe could've been playable if it were chainable to Nobleman of Crossout. Even if you could, it still would lack the ability to prevent attacks, protect your monsters from cards which destroy face-up monsters and so on.

The only utility this card had was in Empty Jar (to re-use Morphing Jar), which was a non-interactive FTK deck. It legacy format it could flip Magician of Faith for Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity sooner, but you'd be at a neutral instead of a plus. Otherwise, it was an inherent -1.

Sun fact: Our Sun is about half-way into it's life. And astronomers predict, that in ~5 billion years, it will greatly expand, swallow all of the planets and then collapse.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Book of Taiyou once was part of an annoying deck: Needle Worm Deckout.

Flipping one face-down monster face-up isn't much now in the game, but in the deck I mentioned, it was everything. Constantly flipping and re-flipping Needle Worm to deck your opponent out was the goal. Book of Taiyou doesn't have really any playability outside of Deckout decks like that though. Decks that need to flip monsters usually have archetype-based support like that.

Crunch$G

We continue this week with a neat card to get Flip Effects off faster, which resulted in an FTK of course, Book of Taiyou.

Book of Taiyou allowed you to take a set monster you control, and flip it into face-up Attack Position. It is neat if your opponent is playing defensive or you need a specific Flip Effect off fast, but this card shined with Morphing Jar and Morphing Jar #2, resulting in an FTK and both Morphing Jars getting banned because Konami hates FTKs.

This is a cool card, still. Plus, with the right Flip Monster or the return of the Morphing Jars, FTKs can still be possible with this. It is an ok card because of those FTK potentials.

Advanced Rating: 3/5
