Duelist Alliance

The release of Duelist Alliance was so strange, appearing far after pendulums were seeming to be the thing of the past. But even weirder than that was how specific this card was and yet somehow completely generic, able to search a wide range of incredible cards, including a few who are/were restricted because of how dominant they were.

Currently, Duelist Alliance can search for about eight monsters (including OCG’s Iris Magician) and a dozen or so spells/traps. But most players immediately zeroed in on a few, Luster Pendulum and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer being the most obvious. And for good reason. As with all spell searchers, being able to add more presence of the most important cards is always fantastic, so easy access to Luster, for instance, improves all decks that use him, even more so than when you had three copies. Since Duelist Alliance can search for other options when you don’t need Luster, diversity abounds.

But of course, Duelist Alliance is so much more than that. Being able to search for cards like Pendulum Call and Amazing Pendulum provides a lengthening of life for current pendulum decks, and access to all the other spells and traps provides for great potential in the future. Any spell searcher with zero cost is eventually going to find its way into future decks, especially one as simple as this card. Anything with pendulum in its name in the future will be tied to it. There’s nothing to dislike about this card, and a million reasons to hold on to three copies, even if pendulums aren’t top notch anymore.

Duelist Alliance is a Normal Spell Card that promotes Pendulum strategies. It does this if you have a card in a Pendulum zone and you want to add a Pendulum monster or Spell or Trap card to your hand from the deck. It has to say Pendulum in the card name and you can only activate 1 of these per turn. So it's a great searcher for the last hoorah of Pendulums...or is it? If I have interpreted the new game board correctly, the extremes of either side of the Spell/Trap Zones are also Pendulum Zones. Instantly a bunch of questions come up. The easiest option would be to set Duelist Alliance and then activate it from the Pendulum Zone to fulfill its own requirement. What about Equip Spell Cards or equipped monsters? Could ABC's use this card? I don't know. I'm looking forward to all the new rulings coming out later this year. Sure it may slow down the game, but that just means spending more time doing what we enjoy; dueling.

Todays COTD is Duelist Alliance, a nifty little spell from Maximum Crisis. It's quick and simple.

If there's a card in ANY pendulum zone, you can add a monster or spell/trap that has Pendulum in it's name from your deck to your hand. Oh, and you can only use one copy of Duelist Alliance once per turn.

What does mean exactly? Well, Performapal decks get a boost, being able to search out Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Pendulum Sorceror or any of the Pendulum Draco monsters. Magicians get a big boost aswell, being able to search Pendulum Call.

Duelist Alliance will really shine when the Pendulum Evolution set gets released and the Zarc Magicians come out in full force. In short, Duelist Alliance is a great card for the "Pendulum" archetype.

Advanced 4/5 in Pendulum, 2/5 as splashable in other decks.

Welcome back to another week of reviews, this week we will continue to look at cards in the newest Maximum Crisis set, just before the Special Edtions drop, too. The first card of the week will be important to Pendulum decks in the upcoming future, and that is Duelist Alliance.

Duelist Alliance does one simple thing, search you a ''Pendulum'' Pendulum Monster or a ''Pendulum'' Spell or Trap, but you can only activate one Duelist Alliance per turn. Let's run down the cards you can get off this card. Luster Pendulum, which is always a great card in Pendulum decks as it allows to go into Ignister as well as give a +1 for a Pendulum Summon play. Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, always good to get to him to get that Wisdom-Eye who is at 3 now. Iris Magican in Pendulum Evolution, because he always counts himself as a Pendulum Dragon monster. Pendulum Call, also at 3 and very important to get scales in your Pendulum Magician deck. Pendulumgraph of Ages, also in Pendulum Evolution, allows a search when a Magician Pendulum leaves the field. Pendulumgraph of Spacetime, in Pendulum Evolution, allows you to destroy one of you Magician Pendulums and a card your opponent controls and if one of the cards doesn't leave the field (Startime Magician will help with that) you can send a card from the field to the graveyard.

Yeah, this card is really good for Pendulum decks, especially Pendulum Magicians. To summarize all I just said, play this card.

Advanced Rating: 4.5/5
