Dark Maltos's Dueling Dome
Dueling in the new year
December 30, 2005

Welcome back to the 1st installment of my Dueling Dome for 2oo6 ! Lets hope we have an equally enjoyable year as the last in Yu-Gi-Oh . In this article I will simply address a few highlights of 2oo5 and then look at what we can expect to see in 2oo6.

2oo5 kicked off with Flaming Eternity, a very rewarding set which introduced powerful cards like the sacred phoenix and lightning vortex to the trinity ridden meta. This set was actually hailed as the next IOC, and certainly changed the way Duelists played the game.

Following FET, the Lost millennium booster was released , allowing for powerful cards like brain control and behemoth’s like the Antique Gear Golem. The set also released a special edition box, much like IOC & RDS had done in the past, with some very intriguing variant cards. The power house of traditional format, Chaos Emperor Dragon back in all his glory. The set also introduced the E-Heroes, fresh out of GX, as well as a personal favorite of mine - Winged Kuriboh.

Cybernetic Revolution followed, and with it came the bane of all original Duelists - Cyber Dragons . Still, quality cards through and through .

Most recently, Elemental Energy made it’s impact on dueling society with cards like the Dark World’s creating new deck types , and Pot of Avarice becoming much sought after. This set also brought with it a limited edition box, with reprints of powerful cards like the Creator, Silent Swordsman Lv 5, Horus lv 8 and the acclaimed sacred Phoenix.

Asides from the varied boosters, many other cards were created last year. DD Assailant, and DD Warrior have been released as promo’s , greatly changing the dueling environment , making it much more DD themed.

Blue Eyes ultimate dragon was also released, a card highly anticipated for a good few years now, as well as many other fan - fav’s appearing this year. The tin sets released many Joey cards, like Gilford the Lightning, Panther Warrior and Rocket Warrior , as well as old classics like Vorse raider making an appearance. The Ultimate Fan card - Dark Magician girl, was also re-released in her alternate art form.

This year has also seen the release of many starter decks, most recently Warriors triumph whose Royal Decree also made an impact.

Asides from card releases , the game has also gone under a dramatic change this year. The introduction of the new ban list . The loss of many over used cards forced Duelists into a Smashing Ground / Sakurtsu Armour way of life.

2oo6 is beginning for a new ban list , which I’m sure we can all work out. DDA abuse is going to be over soon. This year also calls for some fun with upcoming cards.

The new spell caster structure decks will definitely help the theme, with so many vital cards becoming readily available. Also, with Shadow of Infinity on the cards, expect to see a lot of casual ‘New God’ Decks popping up, especially at my house.

Well that’s it from me , hope you enjoyed it. 2oo6 is gonna be a fun year, have a good one !!!
