Dark Maltos's Dueling Dome
THE Dragon Deck - The Horus build
December 20, 2005

Well guys, Im back, here to give you the second installment of THE Dragon deck , this time focusing on the Horus build. I hope you enjoyed the last one, because this is pretty much the same. However, I’d like to stress that I’m not a deck garage, I’m an article writer, so don’t send me your decks unless I ask you to please, but still, I look forward to hearing your responses.

Now, if you didn’t read the last article, let me bring you up to date.

Previously in Dark Maltos’s Dueling Dome…..

‘’Hi I'm Chris and I am responding to your fist post on pojo. I thought the article was good and realized you were describing what has happened to my deck. I went to the regional and my deck got beat bad. I assume you are familiar with the warrior tool box and structure deck? Well out of 8 matches, 6 of them were warrior decks. All almost EXACTLY the same one. Every warrior deck I faced beat me. The only reason I won 2 matches is one guy didn't show up and the other was a newbie who still used cards like "Two Pronged Attack" "Skull Servant" and "Black Pendant". My dragon deck used to be supreme but now it isn't doing so well. I tried to fix it up but it still is not working to its full potential. I REALLY DON'T want to change strategies. Can you help me out by doing a deck fix?

Main Deck
Monsters: 18
Tribute: 6

Red Eyes Darkness Dragon
Red Eyes Black Dragon
Armed Dragon LV 7
Armed Dragon LV 5
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 8
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 6

Luster Dragon X2
D.D. Warrior Lady
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 4
Masked Dragon X2
Twin Headed Behemoth
Armed Dragon LV 3
Mask of Darkness
Red Eyes B. Chick
Spirit Reaper

Magic: 12

Level Up!
Lighting Vortex
Brian Control
Swords of Reveling Light
Reload X2
Dark Hole
Premature Burial
Level Modulation
Heavy Storm
Metamorphosis
Different Dimension Capsule

Trap: 10

Torrential Tribute
Covering Fire
Saksuretsu Armor
Compulsory Evacuation Device X3
Waboku
Negate Attack
Call of the Haunted
Magic Drain
Fusion Deck: 3
Ojama King
Dark Balter the Terrible
Thousand Eyes Restrict
P.S. This is for Advance Format’’

I sure can pal. The problem with this deck is that it’s divided into many separate themes .Firstly, you are using way too many tribute monsters. For a deck, 6 is just too much, we’re gonna have to halve that before we can get anywhere. Tribute monsters are almost always dead-draws, which aint a good thing. On the plus side though, a good tribute monster can really mess up an opposing strategy and deal some major pain to an opponent. I find that this environment supports the use of only 3 tribute monsters without going into Soul Control. ‘’

From this, I went on to say that the deck could go down two separate routes, Armed Dragon and Horus. I did the Armed dragon deck last time, so this time bring on the single strongest dragon in the entire game - Horus. This deck will take full advantage of Horus’s immense lock - down power, as well as protecting him from opposing traps and monsters.

The tribute monsters are going to be the same as last time, except Horus themed, so we’re losing the armed Dragons and Red Eyes for the Horus monsters. :

Tribute monsters :
Horus the black flame dragon Lv 8
Horus the black flame dragon Lv 6 (x2)

Similarly, the Low level monsters are going to be changed :

Roulette Barrel, Armed Dragon lv 3, Red Eyes Back Chic and Mask of Darkness, , most again for obvious reasons. The random effect of the barrel wont benefit this deck at all . . The Armed Dragon lv 3 and black chic have no place in this deck now, and the mask of darkness can be replaced with the same upgrade as last time.

If I were you , I’d add another Horus lv 4as well as a Morphing Jar instead of the mask. Also, as a tester, I’d try out Mirage Dragon, as well as cards like Mystic Swordsman Lv 2 and adding another Masked Dragon for field presence and speed. This will make the low level monster count 12.

Reasons :

Mirage Dragon is a monster that can really help dominate in this format, with the overuse of certain trap cards, this thing is a beast, with its respectable attack power, it will help improve the longevity of Horus’s presence.

Morphing Jar will keep your hand full whilst you are using all the combos that this deck allows for. Its essential in this meta with it’s lack of draw power, and gives you more options than the opponent when Horus is on the field.

Besides trap cards, the only other effect Horus fears are monster effects. Mystic Swordsman Lv 2 can get rid of the flip effects like cyber jar or morphing jar which could be a plague against the deck. This card is more for extra security than necessity.

The one thing Horus decks lack is speed, hopefully adding Masked Dragons will help that. Unfortunately, this time you cant combo Horus lv 4 with the dragons.

At 12, I think the monster ratio is still too low. Adding the Staples Breaker and Sangan will help move this deck along, and im going to add a third Horus Lv 4 too.

Sangan is a great searcher, adding much needed speed to the deck.

Breaker is a steady monster, as well as a s/t remover, making him essential.

Horus lv 4 will be the card most needed to help this deck work. With a steady attack, and an easy to use effect it will probably be the sole way of summoning Horus lv 6.

This makes the monsters :

Tribute monsters :
Horus the black flame dragon Lv 8
Horus the black flame dragon Lv 6 (x2)

4 star or below: 15

Morphing Jar
Luster Dragon X2
D.D. Warrior Lady
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 4 (x3)
Masked Dragon (x3)
Twin Headed Behemoth
Mystic Swordsman lv 2
Sangan
Breaker the magical warrior
Spirit Reaper

Which I think is pretty steady, even though the Luster Dragons are only there as beat downs.

The deck’s s/t’s now need modifying. To add the 3 extra monsters, we lost the Reloads and the Metamorphosis, as there was no way in hell that they were going to work in this new deck, which leaves the following:

Magic: 12

Level Up!
Lighting Vortex
Brian Control
Swords of Revealing Light
Dark Hole
Premature Burial
Level Modulation
Heavy Storm
Different Dimension Capsule

Trap: 10

Torrential Tribute
Covering Fire
Saksuretsu Armour
Compulsory Evacuation Device X3
Waboku
Negate Attack
Call of the Haunted
Magic Drain

Which, spell wise is not a bad mix. But this is a Horus deck, so the spell cant be less than the traps. Losing the DD Capsule , I’m adding Level up!, Scapegoat, Book of Moon , Snatch Steal ,Mystical Space Typhoon , and Pot of Avarice, bringing the spells to a respectable 14. I’m allowing a level modulation as I think it may work in this deck, as the two cards they draw are probably spells for Horus to negate, giving it a bit more coverage than Armed Dragons. The Pot of avarice gives potential to recycle the Horus monsters if they fall.

Cutting the traps to 8 will not be so hard. Negate Attack is too difficult to activate compared to the chainable Waboku, and Magic Drain isn’t needed with Horus on the field .

The lack of s/t removal in this deck is an issue that im going to attend to be adding 2 royal decrees, in replacement of covering fire and a CED. The royal decrees will really add to the lock - down element of the deck. Covering fire is not solid enough to fit in this frankly temperamental deck, and CED just doesn’t fit.

The other CED’s are going to be replaced with a card from The lost Millennium, called Spiritual Fire Art -Kurenai. This allows for some major burn with all the fire monsters in the deck, and is a good card to chain when A Horus is exiled Forced for example.

The Deck

Tribute monsters :
Horus the black flame dragon Lv 8
Horus the black flame dragon Lv 6 (x2)

4 star or below: 15

Morphing Jar
Luster Dragon X2
D.D. Warrior Lady
Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 4 (x3)
Masked Dragon (x3)
Twin Headed Behemoth
Mystic Swordsman lv 2
Sangan
Breaker the magical warrior
Spirit Reaper

Spell: 14

Level Up! (x2)
Lighting Vortex
Brian Control
Swords of Revealing Light
Dark Hole
Premature Burial
Level Modulation
Heavy Storm
Book of moon
Snatch Steal
Mystical Space Typhoon
Scapegoat
Pot of Avarice

Trap: 8

Torrential Tribute
Saksuretsu Armour
Waboku
Call of the Haunted
Royal Decree (x2)
Spiritual Earth Art Kurenai (x2)

The deck is fairly solid, but as stated temperamental . This is a perfect example of a ‘bomb’ deck, unstable but potentially very powerful.

This concludes the Horus deck, and I hope you enjoyed these twin articles, but in the foreseeable future, I will continue writing articles on the game.

Later guys.
