Dark Maltos's Dueling Dome
Striking Thunder

March 17, 2006

Hey guys, welcome back to the dueling Dome. As the third of my articles looking at the 3 Sacred beasts I will now draw my attention to the final of the 3, Hamon the lord of Striking thunder.

This card is based upon that of the Egyptian god card - Ra, but unfortunately this monster does not match up to Ra’s might, paling in comparison to its Legendary demon counterparts, that is im my opinion. Still, moderate weaknesses do not take away from the strength of this monster.

Hamon has a variety of positive points about him, the most noticeable being his obscene 4000 atk and def which he has in common with Raviel. This is a full half of the opposing life points and in a first turn attack, that is certainly noticeable , as unlike the other Demons, Hamon CAN be summoned 1st turn. This is a great advantage and is reminiscent of Ra’s instant attack ability.

Hamon also posses the Attack rod ability of guiding opposing attacks whilst he’s in def. Useful, as with 4000 def not much is getting through him. Hamon can serve as a great wall, therefore you can sit back and relax. Unfortunately though, he’s also a Smashing Rod, and attracting those bad boys is a real shame. That is the reasoning behind a card later.

He can also do a nifty 1000 damage to the opponent if he destroys an opposing monster. A handy little burn effect which could easily be abused if used correctly.

Hamon suit’s a burn deck perfectly. The reassurance of being able to stall for time as well as burn the opponent away is an unmistakable advantage, and there are a lot of cards available which suit both strategies :

Level Limit Area B ;

Singularly the greatest continuous spell ever printed, especially for this deck. Basically this card serves as a stall tactic until you are ready to hit them with your enormous beastie. A must have.

Spell Absorption :

A card I have found myself becoming increasingly fond of over the years. This is a very useful and effective card and is great for this deck, as it truly has a purpose.

Wave motion cannon :

This is obviously a great burn card, so it can fit the theme, but it can also serve its purpose as tribute bait for Hamon. I wouldn’t advise sacrificing it to special summon Hamon if it has been on for a few turns, that would be foolish, but if you play it on the turn you wish to summon Hamon is can be useful, or just a good card to use when Hamon’s not around.

Ectoplasmer :

Another great card for the burn aspect, and prevents the opponent from maintaining field presence. The spell absorptions hopefully will keep you on top of the lp situation.

Messenger of Peace :

Another focal point of the deck. This helps the stalling aspect, as well as being another solid continuous spell.

Toll ;

Another stalling burn gem. Again spell absorptions should keep you on top of lp whilst the opponent is being slowly burnt away. Brutal…

Chain energy :

This is massive burn that really quickly accumulates. Definitely worth a try and again spell absorption negates the negative aspects.

Dark Room of Nightmare :

Not very much extra damage, but every little bit can help.

Fire Princess ;

With all the lp retrieval from Spell absorption, I’d be a fool not to run this. This is another reason the deck works so well.

Stealth Bird :

Arguably one of the best cards out there for burn. Still, the deck is lacking in monsters.

Cyber Jar ;

There to rebuild the extreme loss of advantage such a deck can make .

Morphing Jar :

For the same reason as his cyber cousin.

Pole Position :

A card I’ve recently over looked, and an almost staple in all of these demon decks, ESPECIALLY Uria. Not questions asked , this helps them all, as nothings getting higher attack than them.

Royal Decree ;

Staple in this deck, being there to negate Dust Tornados, and the like that could hurt either Hamon or the burn strategy.

So, I guess this is the deck :

Monsters - 18

Hamon the lord of striking Thunder (x2)

Stealth Bird (x3)
Fire Princess (x3)
Sangan
Cyber Jar
Morphing Jar
Spirit Reaper (x3)
DD Warrior Lady
Exiled Force
Magician of Faith
Breaker the Magical Warrior

Spells - 19

Messenger of peace (x3)
Spell Absorption (x3)
Level limit Area B (x2)
Wave Motion Cannon
Toll
Chain Energy (x2)
Dark Hole
Mystical Space Typhoon
Nobleman of Crossout
Book of Moon
Giant Trunade
Scapegoat
Lightning Vortex

Traps - 3
Royal Decree (x3)

And there we have it. Not a bad deck, assuming it all goes well, although im sure this can be improved upon, again any suggestions are more than welcome. Send those to Toddyhole@aol.com as always.

Next up one of the most difficult decks to ever created, prepare yourself for Infinity of Shadows….
