Metamorphosis
April 11, 2006

At any given period there are 10^19 Insects on the planet.  For every one pound of person there is some 300 pounds of Insect.  With there sheer numbers we as a species seem insignificant and relatively speaking, minute.  From the ongoing development of various ancient orders (including insects who reproduce through indirect means, lacking wings, and having no form of metamorphosis) to the true kings of the world;  Blattaria (the order cockroaches belong) and Orthoptera (order grasshoppers belong) with there fold-able wings; insects dominate.  They can be found on every Continent, even Antarctica (where some have 4 year life spans) and inhabit all habits except the worlds oceans.

In Yu-Gi-Oh we have come to a conclusion, Insects are some of the most underrated yet significant cards we have currently gotten support for.  (Kinda like in nature, many of us tend to forget that our survival is directly linked with theirs:P)  Just like in nature they are playable and can exist in numerous deck builds.  May we be going for the aggro hit-em up and fast build, to the more anti attack variant.  Insect decks need to be pioneered.  In this short amount of time we have witnessed the evolution of this archetype and I suspect it will continue metamorphosing into something great.

I went to a regional tournament in Columbus Ohio Sunday (sadly I placed 17 out of 240 losing my 1st game due to not having a monster while taking a beating from Proto-Cyber Dragon and my 8th game to Jordan Savage (whom was the third ranked player in the world at some point) after beating him in round one and having 2 consecutive losses due to no monsters) but I was running an Elemental Hero Wildheart/Command Knight control variant that for the other 6 games locked the field down with spirit reaper and Command Knight.  Kinda funny to see somebody summon Kinetic Soldier and attack your Spirit Reaper.

In between games I was play testing my insect deck.  I noticed that the insect deck provided more field control and better game play then almost any other deck I have ever used.  Plus Doom Dozer is my new favorite card.  Netting me awesome luck drops like snatch steal, smashing ground, and even exiled force after being rammed by a Giant Rat to search it out :P  Thus for the following week I plan on demonstrating to my readers the following decks

1) Insect Beatdown

2) Ultimate Insect

Total (40)

Monster (20)

3x Insect Knight
3x Doom Dozer
3x Flying Kamakiri #1
2x Ultimate Insect Lv. 3
2x Ultimate Insect Lv. 5
3x Spirit Reaper
Breaker the Magical Warrior
1x Sangan
1x D.D. Warrior Lady
1x Neo Bug

Spells(12)

2x Smashing Ground
2x My Body as a Shield
2x Nobleman of Crossout
1x Premature Burial
1x Pot of Avarice
1x Graceful Charity
1x Snatch Steal
1x Heavy Storm
1x MST

Traps (8)

3x Sakuretsu Armor
1x Bottomless Trap Hole
1x Widespread Ruin
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Call of the Haunted
1x Mirror Force

At first glance this deck may seem a tad unconventional, simply because it runs numerous high tribute monsters.  But they can all be special summoned.  See, flying kamakiri  #1 searches out Ultimate Insect lv. 3; this in turn drops off and brings lv. 5 to the field.

From this first move 2 insects are now in the graveyard to aid in summon fodder for Doom Dozer.  Thus instant field advantage is established and your field is morphing your graveyard into a tool not only for Pot of Avarice but your 2800 beatstick.  I have included My Body as a Shield because this deck can swarm.  When 2 or even three doom dozers come to the field at once plus your normal summon, Torrential Tribute and Mirror Force will be of no threat.

This deck is still in the prototype phase so any ideas concerning it would be greatly appreciated.

Try it out and see its potential.
