Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

The Secret of the Bandit

Card Number - LOD-085

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 06.03.03

wartortle32 The Secret of the Bandit

This card can only be activated during Main Phase 1. Select 1 monster on your side of the field. Each time the selected monster inflicts Battle Damage, your opponent must discard 1 card randomly during the turn this card is activated.

I personally think that this card is near worthless. Its effect only works for one monster and for 1 turn only. You might as well use a robbin goblin as it is better than this card in almost every way. It works continuously and for all of your monsters. The only way this card is better is that it is faster and can be used right away.

I'd give this a 1.5/5. Maybe I'm just not seeing the potential of this card, but if you want hand disruption, robbin goblin is a much better choice.

well, well, well... this card isn't half bad, though it only works for one monster. If this card worked for your side of the field, it would be even better, but even this has its uses. This could immediately destroy your opponent's plan, simply by discarding that crucial trap, or that raigeki... or that... whatever... this card can definitely come in handy

3/5 - it can definitely help, but its only one monster...
NickWhiz1 Tuesday - The Secret of the Bandit

*randomly reappears*

Yep, I'm back and ready to do CotD again. Sorry for just randomly dropping off the face of the earth. It's a long story, really. But I'm back, and ready to review. In fact, if you all pray really hard, I may start a weekly column in the next week or so ~_^

Today's card is an interesting common from Legacy of Darkness, The Secret of the Bandit.

Now where have I seen this card before? I think it was from the Metal Raiders expansion (old-school =/), and I think it involved a goblin and theft/robbery, or something like that. Was it, uhh, Little Chimera? </idiot>

This critter has its advantages and disadvantages over Little Chi....err, that goblin thingy </double idiot>

Advantages:
*Isn't affected by M/T removal
*Can't be stopped by Jinzo

Disadvantages:
*Specifically targets one monster, basically inviting your opponent to specifically block that monster's attack
*Only lasts for one turn
*Almost always a maximum of 1 for 1 card advantage
*Can't be used with Freed the Matchless General (err, skip that one =/)

The only way that this card would help you gain card advantage would be is if you used it with Hayabusa Knight or Asura Priest, but even then, the goblin thingy would let you do it multiple times with multiple monsters.

That's not saying that this card is bad, there's just another card that does a better job than it. If the goblin thingy hadn't been released, this might almost be useful, but as it stands, this makes good toilet paper =/ Decks built around Yata-Garasu, however, may CONSIDER this card in a quantity of ONE, just because hand destruction is that much more important in those kind of decks =/ Other than that, stay away.

Score: 2.0

BTW, I finally remembered what it was. It was The Unhappy Maiden! *gets smacked in the head* I meant Robbin' Goblin ~_^

And while I'm here, I might as well wish my little pain in the butt brother Bryan a good 14th birthday. 14 years ago today, God sent down a little brother destined to get Jinzo and Yata-Garasu just so I couldn't ~_^ Oh well.
SomeGuy Tuesday - The Secret of the Bandit

This card can only be activated during Main Phase 1. Select 1 monster on your side of the field. Each time the selected monster inflicts Battle Damage, your opponent must discard 1 card randomly during the turn this card is activated.

Even though this just works for a single turn, it's better than Robbin' Goblin since it does not have to be set on the Field a turn prior. Not only that but, The Secret of the Bandit is much quicker and cannot be destroyed by Mystical Space Typhoon, Heavy Storm, Harpies Feather Duster, and Jinzo like Robbin' Goblin can.

The main advantage that Robbin' Goblin has over this card is the fact that it affects all of your Monsters, but don't expect it to last very long.

If only The Secret of the Bandit were a Quickplay Magic card...

Rating: 2.9/5
The Echidna Tuesday, June 3rd

good morning pojo-goers. before I get into the card of the day, I'd
like to quickly introduce myself. I'm known as ech, and I've been
mainly known as working on pokémon zeo () with purity. right now I'm
still a webmaster at zeo, but I am also working for the yu-gi-oh! mall
tour snaking its way across the country. anyway, we’ve known pojo ever
since the first east coast sts, and I'm now going to try my hand at
doing some cotd reviews here as well.

<phew>

more than you’ve ever wanted to know about me, huh? anyway, without further adieu, I give you the card of the day for Tuesday.

hmmmmm…. what have we here? kinda like a magic version of white magical hats, except instead of the effect being activated if you do damage to your opponent’s life points, it kicks in whenever the selected monster attacks.

not too terribly useful in my eyes, because it’s a one shot deal. you put it onto one of your monsters, and once it attacks, that’s pretty much it. It becomes slightly more viable if you have it on a hayabusa night, as then your opponent must discard two cards. and even more so if you add it to other monsters from lod that can attack multiple times….

pros:
card advantage, discards from your opponent’s hand

cons:
limited use, you will usually only get to discard one card with it

overall rating:

casual: [3.5/5] a fun card to throw into decks, especially if you have a hand disruption deck. might see some use in a yata deck, its always fun to frustrate your opponent :D
serious: [2.5/5] there are more useful cards that you can use if you want to disrupt your opponent’s hand. again, it gives you the card advantage, but it isn’t enough of one to use up one of your slots for it.

draft: [4/5] very good in draft, as you have to make each card count. disruption is very good in draft, and this is pretty much a guaranteed disruption.
