Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Pyramid of Light
Limited Edition Promo

If this face-up card is removed from your side of the field, destroy "Andro Sphinx" and "Sphinx Teleia" on your side of the field and remove them from play.

Type - Continuous Trap
Card Number
- MOV-EN004

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale 1 being
the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 8.12.04

ExMinion OfDarkness Thursday:
Pyramid of Light

There's not much to say about this without reviewing the Sphinxes as well. It's basically the same thing as reviewing a Field Magic.

This forces me to give this card a 5/5 in Sphinx deck and 0/5 elsewhere.
Tranorix Thursday: Pyramid of Light

I’ll just say this: it would be nice if Pyramid of Light did something other than serve as a supplement to the Sphinxes.

Run it if you're running Andro and Teleia. If you're not, there's no reason to run Pyramid. This one's easy to rate... it's worthless in a regular deck and a staple in a Sphinx deck.

Typical tournament deck: 1/5
Sphinx deck: 5/5
OVERALL RATING: 3/5
Otaku

Ugh!  More ambiguous wording and involving more cards we don’t have… at least the two this one uses are coming out with the other movie ones I am told…

Stats: Continuous Trap.  Normally, not so great a thing, but depending on how you interpret the text, this might actually be the best form for Pyramid of Light.

Effect(s): “If this face-up card is removed from your side of the field, destroy "Andro Sphinx" and "Sphinx Teleia" on your side of the field and remove them from play.”  It doesn’t say “Removed from play” in the “trigger” clause, so I think it means if it is destroyed, sent back to the hand, or actually removed from play.  Now, why would you want to destroy [and have removed from play] two monsters that, according to Pojo’s Spoilers are these:

EP1-EN002
Andro Sphinx
Level 10
ATK 3000
DEF 2500
Beast/Effect
You can pay 500 Life Points to Special Summon this card when "Pyramid of Light" is on the field. This card cannot attack during the turn it was Normal Summoned or Special Summoned. This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard. If this card destroys a Defense Position monster as a result of battle, inflict damage to your opponent's Life Points equal to half of the ATK of the destroyed monster.
Ultra Rare

EP1-EN003
Sphinx Teleia
Level 10

Well, for one, each of these “Movie Promo Sphinx” (MPS from now on) cards cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard.  They don’t nix being summoned from “removed from play”, so this is a way to bring them back.  The Sphinx Siblings (is that right?) are big monsters with effects that have to sit dead a turn due to their effects, but if they are destroyed at the same time, then you get to summon tomorrows CotD.  Since this is a Trap, you make your opponent waste a Spell/Trap destroying card to help you summon a big fattie.

Uses/Combinations: In decks built around tomorrow’s card. ;)  One thing to note is that you should be able to chain to Spell/Trap removal and be considered face-up.

Ratings

Casual: 3/5-When you see tomorrow’s CotD, this will make some sense.  This is for a specific deck though that really needs it, so keep in mind I am not being too kind.

Tournament: 2/5 - Also will make sense tomorrow (I hope).

Limited: 1/5 - It’s called bluffing, so at least it has a small use.  Of course, it’s not like you’d ever draft it under normal circumstances.

Summary

Very specific use card, but it does it’s bizarre job.

dawnyoshi Pyramid of Light...geez. This makes the sphinx monsters from the exclusive pack ridiculously easy to special summon. The effect isn't really much of a concern. In fact, it can more often benefit you than hurt you, as you can easily bring out Theinen the Great Sphinx with a simple Mystical Space Typhoon. The best part is that this removes the Sphinxes from the game, allowing them to be targets with Dimension Fusion and Return from the Different Dimension (not that good for Sphinxes unless you're going to bring out Theinen again).

The trap doesn't need anything more for an effect. It's just really really good for summoning Sphinx monsters, and that alone will cause some serious problems for your opponent.

Constructed: 4/5

Thursday: Pyramid of Light

Rated For: Sphinx Deck

Pyramid of Light is the final movie promo card we will be reviewing for the week. It's sole purpose for existence is to special summon the two Sphinxes, Andro and Teleia. Interestingly enough, its effect should actually help in getting the big boy, Theinen the Great Sphinx out. On we go with the review.

Advantage F/H: I'm assuming you'll run 2 sphinxes each and maybe one or two Great Sphinxes in a casual play deck. With that said, this trap card will only be used with 4 cards in your deck, making it dead weight in every other situation. It doesn't impact the game at all; it's just a wasted card that provides no advantage. 1/10.

Best Draw for the Situation: I'm going to assume, again, that a Sphinx deck will have trouble getting them out with Pyramid of Light. Even if you run three of these things, you're never really going to want to draw it, unless you have the Sphinxes in hand. They're unsearchable and you'll have, at most, 6 in your deck. 1/10.

Attributes/Effect: As trap cards go, this is one of the more terrible ones in the game. They should have definitely given it a secondary effect (like Sanctuary of the Sky). As it stands, a card with only one purpose (in this case, summoning Sphinxes) is basically an Anti-Raigeki.       1/10.

Dependability: You'll have 3 pyramids of light and 6 sphinxes in your deck. You can search the pyramids, but not the sphinxes. When you have sphinxes and no pyramids, the sphinxes become dead weight as well. Bleh.     5/10 because of Cat of Ill Omen.

The Bottom Line: This is a horrible deck for all but casual play.

A BAD Score: 9/40=                    23/100

If you absolutely MUST run this: Pack 3 Cat of Ill Omens to bring the Pyramid's out fast. Then, you can at least count on them to special summon the Sphinxes.
