Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Change of Heart

Card Number - MRD-060

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 1.19.04

Previously Reviewed: 4.05.02

f00b Mon 1.19.04 - Change of Heart

Normal Magic Card:
Select and control 1 opposing monster (regardless of position) on the field until the end of your turn.

1 word - STAPLE. With very few exceptions, this belongs in every deck, as it is useful at almost any time and has plenty of combos…

Pros:
+If opponent has a monster, this card is useable
+No cost to play
+Steal flip effect mons
+Good to see what your opponent is planning/hiding
+All the combos listed below…

Cons:
-Umm…it’s not a permanent shift of possession?
-Some cards, like blindly loyal goblin, are unaffected by this

Combos:
*Take their monster…use it to tribute summon your Jinzo, Vampire Lord, Airknight Parshath, etc
*Take their monster…use it to attack, then launch it with cannon soldier, catapult turtle, etc
*Take their monster…oh wait, that’s good by itself ^_^ Clear field? Take the open shot
*“Targets” spirit reaper to immediately destroy it (not really a combo, but eh)
*Use with other possession cards like creature swap to really screw with control of your opponent’s mons

Conclusion? USE this card, it’s restricted for a reason, unlike upstart goblin ^_~

Ever stolen a fiber jar and reset the game? How bout a cyber jar? Magician of faith? Mask of darkness? This card has ALWAYS been good. But now? It’s power shifts to two things: the ability to open up the field and the ability to tribute for a higher level monster.

I can’t imagine how many thousands of times I’ve stolen an opponent’s Beatstick and sacked for my beat. It’s perfect, you take away their monster for your own.

Or, how many times have I just stolen a monster so that I could have a clear shot with don zaloog or spirit reaper? Too many.

Don’t have a Nobleman of Crossout on hand? It’s alright, steal their flip effect from them, and then be gracious, because this is America. At least say, “Thank you.” ;-)

If it isn’t obvious how much of a staple this card is, then =\ It’s versatility secures it a spot in almost every 40 card deck these days. And uh, that’s a GOOD thing.

Ratings:
Constructed - 4.5/5 It isn’t perfect, but it IS the best at what it does
Limited - 5/5 omg just TAKE it. ggnore.

Hooray for playable CoTDs ^_^
infinitekhaos MRD-060 Change of Heart  Magic Select and Control 1 opposing monster (regardless of its position) on the field until end of turn Ultra Rare

Old school, very old school. Change of heart was one of the very first cards declared a "staple." However, CoH is not as much a staple as it was before. In the old days, duelists played three summoned skulls in a standard beatdown. So change of heart was a necessity as it allowed you to tribute your opponents monsters for your skulls. Also, since duelists also ran heavy flip effects, changing a face down usually meant man eater bug or magician of faith. The meta has greatly changed since then. Change of heart is still considered a "staple" but what some call a "loose staple." This concept meaning, you usually won't play without it, but you hate topdecking it. I know from experience that change is one of the cards I cant stand topdecking.  Change can however, be considered a form of monster removal. If you need just one hit to finish off your opponent, and he or she has facedown in the way, which could be a fiber jar or DDWL, change simply clears the field. As far as I am concerned, snatch steal is far superior to change in every way, except for the fact that change can allow you to control face down monsters. Overall, change is still a very versatile and playable card and will still see much play in the future of the game.

Tourney - 3.6/5

Draft - 4.6/5

Artwork - 4/5 - the MRD holo version is very cool looking

Closing Line - change your vampire lord.....AND TRIBUTE FOR JINZO!
