ExMinion OfDarkness Tuesday:
Mystic Wok

You know my love for legal loopholes. This card creates another one of them, and that's why it found its way into my AST Card of the Day selections.

On its own, this card can do a couple things. It can save you for a turn, giving you much needed life to survive an opponent's attack. It can get a Sangan or Witch (or Emissary) off the field for you to get its effect. It can be chained to The Sinister Six to even out the -1 hand advantage you would get from playing this card.

With some staples, it gets slightly more powerful. Change of Heart/Snatch Steal their monster, attack with it, then Mystic Wok it away. Equip a monster with United or Mage, attack, and use this card to gain MASS life. Even better -- wait until your equipped monster is about to be targeted by Ring/Change of Heart/Snatch/etc. and use this in chain.

Now, for the combo that will get you many enemies (and many tournament wins, if you play it right)...

THE INFINITE LP combo.

This combo requires 4 cards, but is well worth it. Gearfried the Iron Knight, Magical Marionette, Mystic Wok, and Butterfly Dagger - Elma.

Get both Gearfried and Marionette to the field. Infinitely equip Gearfried with Elma to create as many Spell counters on Elma as you want. Then, use Mystic Wok on Marionette and user her Attack score. Voila, eternal life.

Here's where the legal loophole comes in. Give yourself infinite Life Points with this combo (oh, say around 10,000,000 or so) in Duel 1. Then sit back and relax. Your opponent's never going to kill you -- and don't try to kill them. The Match will be called on time, and who's going to have higher LP? Oh yeah, the guy with millions of them.

I don't know the legality of an opponent conceding in this scenario. I need to check that with the NetReps. I hope it's illegal to concede, because it's instant Match Win if it is.

On its own: 2.5/5
Infinite LP combo: 3.75/5
Tranorix Tuesday: Mystik Wok

Mystik Wok is a very interesting Quickplay Magic Card from Ancient Sanctuary. Its purpose? Life gain.

Most people think LP gaining is a waste, but in the right deck, it can be very effective. Just look at Saturn (which we reviewed last week): Using a Mystik Wok or two could easily bring your Life Points high enough to do massive damage with Saturn. You could also use this in a Fire Princess deck, or any deck that you want to use to frustrate your opponent; Life gain is VERY frustrating to play against.

Some interesting combos with this: You can blow up Chaos Emperor Dragon and then Wok it. You'll reduce the damage you do by 300 (because CED will no longer count toward its effect), but instead of paying 1000 LP, you'll end up gaining 2000. What's wrong with that? You could also bring out something like Labyrinth Wall via Giant Rat and instantly Wok it for a quick 3000. Or why not attack with Giant Orc, then Wok it, getting more Fiends in the Graveyard for Necrofear? You can chain Mystik Wok to an opposing Raigeki to gain LP instead of losing your monster for nothing.

There are MANY uses for this card, which deserves a spot at least in most side decks. Give it a try...you'll be surprised.

Typical tournament deck: 3.5/5
Life gain (for whatever reason) deck: 5/5
OVERALL RATING: 4.3/5
MerrilHess Mystik Wok

This is my favorite card in the set, Mystik Wok (although Mystery Wok would have been better).

Pros:
This gives you life, at best (on average), 2400 life to be exact (offering a Jinzo), or at least 1000 (offering a Sangan). A life boost is a great thing. It could do great things when comboed with other cards. Change of Heart makes this worlds better. Take your opponent's Summoned Skull, attack, if they chain Mirror Force, for example, you could play this from your hand in response and gain the 2400 advantage you would have gotten had the attack gone through, except instead of a loss, there's a gain instead. Not bad, not bad at all. The same goes for Snatch Steal and the CotD for Thursday, Enemy Controller. Here's one last situation that would make it very powerful: Change of Heart their Jinzo, attack directly, then pop it with Mystik Wok. You just destroyed one of their creatures and gained a +4800 advantage. Nice.

Cons:
It's a spell, so Imperial Order owns it badly, but being a quickplay gives it chainability to IO, so it's kinda evened out there. You can only offer creatures on your side of the field, so don't forget that. It also gives you field disadvantage, too.

Overall, I give Mystik Wok a 8.4/10. It's a card that should be considered for the sideboard at least.
