SomeGuy  Monday - Strike Ninja

Strike Ninja is one hell of a Ninja. He can seriously do some mad tricks. Alas, I'm sure he won't see as much play as he deserves. If only you had to remove just one Dark
monster from your discard pile instead of two...

Continuously removing two Dark monsters from your discard pile isn't very easy to accomplish, so with that in mind you must use his effect wisely. For that reason, and the fact that he gets in the way of the more tournament viable Chaos monsters, he will end up being played mostly in casual decks. This is all based on the current tournament enviroment of course.

Strike Ninja is insane in Limited. If you see this guy, grab all the crappy Dark monsters that you can. He can literally win you the game single-handedly.

DM7FGD  Well, I've reviewed Strike Ninja (Swift Black Ninja) over in my Look Into the Future section about 7 months ago, so here's a link to that, explaining what I have/had to say about Strike Ninja.

http://www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/FeaturedWriters/DM7FGD/2003/The%20Warriors%20of%20the%20Future.shtml

I believe the Strike Ninja to be a bit of an underrated card. It can be very effective if you know how to use it correctly. (Dimensional Scouting Maching = D.D. Scout Plane, btw, which works extraordinarily well with the Ninja)

*sigh*  ONE of the few cards that I haven't opened in my boxes yet =[

I really wanted to try this card out for many reasons.  First, the fact that I can use his ability during EITHER player's turn is AMAZING.  Think about it, remove 2 DARK monsters (and trust me, we already have PLENTY of dark monsters in our decks any ways) and save your Strike Ninja from a Dark Hole, Raigeki, Change of Heart, whatever he wants to do with it.  Seems pretty good right?  well like all other cards, there are Pros/Cons

Pros
+ It's a 1700 4 star Warrior
+ It's effect can be used during either player's turn
+ Your opponent has to think twice before using Tribe Infecting Virus, Raigeki, etc...
+ JUST 2 Dark Monsters?  a lot easier than Dark AND a Light
+ By removing only 2 DARK monsters, you can save ur Ninja from almost anything

Cons
- Dark monsters include Witch of the Black Forest, Sangan, Magicial Scientist, etc...
- After Fiber Jar, the deck loses a LOT of it's strength
- Sometimes you just don't have 2 Dark Monsters
- Only 1700 ATK which means Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer can kill him

Put this card into the "great effects but too situational" cards of the Yu Gi Oh meta-game.  *sigh*

I was soo exicted to hear that this card will be printed.  I thought this card was VERY good.  Then I got to play the Chaos Empress Dragon and Black Luster Soldier.  You never want to have them IF you have no Dark and Light monsters in your Graveyard.  I never realized it would be that hard.  And even if you run 3 DD Warrior Ladies, you never have enough Light monsters IN YOUR GRAVEYARD to bring out one of those huge monsters.  But back to the Ninja; this card needs to be ONLY summoned if you have 2 Dark Monsters in your graveyard.  Then you can use his effect and not worry about any thing else.  I don't know if this effect can be used during Battle Phase (so if Fiber Jar was activated, you can remove 2 dark monsters to save him and bring him back to the field, etc...) but if you can, then this card has great advantages.

I don't know what else to say about this card.  It seems good but it's not the greatest.  Try it though.  Remember that this card can be used both turns.

Ratings
Constructed: 6/10 (just too situational for my taste)
Limited: 7/10 (1700 ATK is not bad)

Best Situation
Your opponent only has two cards in his hand (Dark Hole and Sinister Serpent); you only have Yata Garasu and he already Time Sealed you.  He has to play Dark Hole to prevent the "Yata-Lock."  You have 2 Dark Monsters in your Graveyard.  He actiavtes Dark hole on his turn; you remove two dark monsters.  He sets Sinister Serpent and ends turn.  You get to bring back Strike Ninja and then summon Yata-Garasu to get ur opponent into a Yata-Lock ^^

Ultra Rare

Welcome to Invasion of Chaos week! Every card we deal with this week
will have something to do with the Removed From Game pile.

Today, we have a non-tribute monster strong enough to take out
Control-based monsters and T-Virus, Witchable, and an effect that allows it to evade attack.

It's a bit costly -- you obviously wouldn't play this monster in a Deck
that had other monsters removing things, as 2 monsters per use adds up
fairly quickly, with an average of 16-17 monsters per Deck...and they can't ALL be Dark.

It's splashable -- many monsters used in current Control decks are Dark.
Tomato, Sangan, Witch, Zaloog, Scientist...I still don't think this
card's all that great, but it's not like a lot of the other cards in
the set either *coughChaosriderGustaphcough*.

Stats: In terms of stats, this card is neither exceptional nor worthless.  Level 4 monsters are only shown up in terms of usefulness by Level 3 monsters, and that is only due to the occasional Gravity Bind deck.  Dark monsters have some solid support, and Warriors definitely do.  An ATK of 1700 is a bit low, but and the DEF could be as high as 1500, but still allow the same benefits of a 1200 (searchable by Witch of the Black Forest).  As I said, the stats don’t make or break this card.

Card Text (Effects): Here’s what might make Strike Ninja useful.  Based on the wording, I believe this is supposed to be a Spell Speed 2 effect.  However, it is not guaranteed.  I will work under the assumption that it is for now-if not, then it’s an okay Level 4 Dark/Warrior that can dodge nasty things if you know they are coming (in a Dark deck).  Even with my assumption, “dodging” is expensive-too expensive in my opinion.  Removing two Dark monsters means that its going to be tricky to power.  It lasts until the end the turn, which is okay-if you had a choice of ending it earlier, it would be nicer.  If you had a choice of when to end it, it’d be great.  Personally, I had hoped it would have had the ability they gave it in the cartoon to activate another player’s Trap cards (though that was as a Deck Master).  Note that if you can chain it and use it to dodge an attack, it would trigger a replay-meaning they get to attack again.  Nice if they play something that has to pay to attack (and pays before the damage step), not overly useful elsewhere.

Uses/Combinations Best idea I can think of is to use it in a Dark themed deck, remove a bunch of monsters, then use Dimension Fusion to summon them all to the field.  Getting monsters into the discard in large quantities is easy of you can be “sloppy” about it: Magic Merchant works great for it.  The effect should make it could for making an opponent waste effects-as stated, if this monster’s effect is Spell Speed 2, it can chain to most forms of monster removal.

Ratings

Casual: 3.5/5-Here it could be used for a nice massive blitz deck.

Constructed: 3/5-The same deck might work here, but will be harder to compete.

Limited: 3.5/5-Its stats make it an okay choice here.  It’s effects make it a good choice in my opinion.  Dodge whatever few nasty cards where drawn, and still have a monster for tributing if need be.

Summary

Not a bad card, but not a great card.  If the effect was easier (removing one monster, discarding from hand, paying a small LP cost), then it might be better, or if it stated that in the case of an attack, the attack was wasted.
