Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Last Turn
Rare

This card can only be activated during your opponent's turn when your Life Points are 1000 or less. Select 1 monster on your side of the field and send all other cards on the field and in their respective owners' hand to their respective Graveyards. Your opponent must then Special Summon 1 monster from his/her Deck in face-up Attack Position and attack your selected monster. Any Battle Damage from this battle is treated as 0. The player whose monster remains alone on the field at the End Phase of this turn wins the Duel. Any other case results in a DRAW.

Type - Trap Card
Card Number - DB2-EN206

Last Turn

This card got so many bad players into Top 8 and kept so many good players out of Top 8 it wasn't even funny.

One turn kill decks are never fun to face. Hence why Konami eliminated so many with the last list. Last Turn was a very difficult deck to play against in Duel 1 for a lot of people, but with the increase in sided Royal Decrees, the popularity of Dusts, and (at the time) Sinister to screw with the people who immediately activated it on the draw phase, its decline was inevitable.

I'd cover how the combo works, but I think every other CotD reviewer did that today, so I'll just deter you to those.

Traditional: 1.25/5 (Scientist = better one turn kill)

Advanced: Banned/5

Pojo Fact: Last Turn has only been reviewed once, and it was nearly THREE years ago.

Now, our theme for the week progresses, we're going to be looking at more cards that have had their status on the Banned/Restricted list changed.

Today we look at Last Turn, my favorite alternate win condition ever.
Let's recap. Before this Ban List, we had two copies of Last Turn to use. Then, all of a sudden, it's Banned. Is Last Turn powerful? Yes.
Does it have a lot of potential? Yes. Can it screw over your opponent? Yes. Was it worth being Banned? Hell no.

That last statement may be a bit of a contradiction to the rest, but allow me to explain. Last Turn CAN be deadly. However, nearly any card with any potential CAN be deadly. Last Turn has a simple effect.
You can only activate when your lifepoints are 1000 points or less and during your opponents turn.

You then choose a selected monster you have on the field and your opponent selects a monster from his/her deck and special summons it in face up Attack posistion. After a 1 on 1 battle that results in no damage, the person whose monster survives wins the duel. Any other case results in a Draw.

I love playing a Last Turn deck, that I can only use in Casual play now. Last Turn must have become extremely popular and powerful in Japan to warrant a Ban, since it wasn't a threat here that warrented that. It's really too bad that it was Banned here before it actually had a chance to achieve status that it might warrant said Ban.

Ratings:

Traditional: 3.85/5 At least here you can still use it, even though it probably won't be able to be very successful with Chaos looming around.

Advanced: Banned/5

Last Turn:
And now we start the Week of the Dead. Cards that is.

Yes, Last Turn, one of the longest lasting OTKs, is finally dead. This combo was never exactly broken and rarely won tournaments, but it sure as heck anoyed a lot of people along the way. Tthe deck never made an enormous impact on tournaments, except the prescense of a few Elephant Statues in side decks.

However, it never deserved banning. This death is solely atributed to Konami's hate of OTKs, somehow seeing them as cheating and not proper game play.
Virutally every one in existence has been shot dead and mortally wounded by banning and restriction. I suppose it was only a matter of time.

(Rating the deck, not the card, as it is useless outside of its own deck.)
Traditional: 3/5
Casual: 4/5

Last turn :

Alternative kill strategies took a major hit last format, especially since the otherwise situational ones like this card being outright banned.

Sure it has its combos, such as the infamous Jowgen the Spiritualist and wall of revealing light, but I say ban those cards, and leave the precious cool kill.

In traditional, this would never be played, in advanced, as of now the same holds true.

Last Turn

This card has been the bane of my dueling career. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. If you ever went to a regional tourny 2 days before nationals almost all of the people played this deck. It was cheap and fast and down rightfully wrong. A cool deck, and worthy of all its praise, but play against 5 of these and you will hate it too. It needed to be banned, ftk decks are ruthless and wrong. They take skill to build and work within the first few weeks of developing them but after a good build is established they almost all look the same.

5/5 in a Last Turn Deck

But it is banned, so HA
