Dark Paladin
Friday

We close the week looking at Phantom Cricket...a card that isn't bad, but is outclassed by a card I'm sure your familiar with, a little Monarch named Raiza, perhaps?

Here, when flipped, our Insect friend lets you return one face-down monster on the Field back to the owner's Deck. I suppose it's all right that you could target your own monster, if you so desired, but this thing isn't that great.

It's greatly limited, for starters. It can only be a monster, as opposed to any card on the Field, and, instead of being any monster, it has to be a face-down monster. We're entering some pretty restrictive grounds here folks.

Ratings:

1.5/5 all around

Well, this is an interesting card. An effect that would be superb if the text stated "defense position". Instead, it's facedown, something that happens about three to seven times in an average deck. Spirit Reaper, Crystal Seer, Sangan, and Marshmallon are about the only things commonly set.

Now it is an Earth, so in a Gigantes based deck it might serve useful, as Gigantes tends to have the upper hand in ATK and may force the opponent to make an unwise set. It is 2 Star and has 300 ATK, which means should to decide to go offensive with a 300 ATKer, it's going to get under pretty much all the restrictive cards. Outside of that, I don't see a whole ton of play for this card. Especially not when Shield Crush in around.

In Traditional, don't even touch this. I rarely say this regarding traditional, but it really isn't suited in a fast paced environment. The best thing this has is Tsukuyomi, which has TER. In a deck based around Tsuku and TER, this card could be useful in the case that TER gets blowed up.

In Advanced, this card could be of some use, as Crystal Seer's come in three's, with the possibility of Spy and Dekoichi. Though it certainly is better in Advanced, it's just not that fantastic. Chances are this card's going to be activated during your opponants turn, via attack. What's worse is that if you should happen to have a facedown, and they don't, guess who's getting topped.

Traditional: 1
Advanced: 2.5 It's actually a consideration almost

Well they were going in the right direction with this card. He is a bug, but that means almost nothing in the current game. He is just far too situational for anyonr to play. Raiza and even Mysterious Guard do the job much better.

Advanced-1/5
