Dark Paladin
Tuesday

Continuing the week, we go back to looking at cards from Phantom's Darkness, We look today at Goblin Zombie, a Secret Rare of the set, who I have rather mixed feelings about. Goblin Zombie is Level 4 with only 1100 attack and 1050 defense, who is a Dark monster, and appropriately, a Zombie.

Now, first, if Goblin Zombie inflicts damage to your opponent's Lifepoints, the top card of your opponent's Deck is sent straight to the Graveyard. That is usually a good thing, unless you're feeding Dark monsters into their Graveyard to summon Darklord Zerato, Dark Armed Dragon, or something. However, with only 1100 attack, how often are you going to inflict damage to your opponent?

Not very often. The second effect, however, is certainly handy. When Goblin Zombie is sent from the Field to the Graveyard, even by an effect of your own, you can add one Zombie monster from your Deck to your Hand that has 1200 defense points or less. Spirit Reaper? Soul Absorbing Bone Tower? Those are just a couple that come to mind.

Ratings:

Traditional: 2/5 Dark, yet a Zombie.

Advanced: 3.25/5 More solid, especially in Zombie.

General Zorpa Goblin Zombie

This little guy gave everyone a reason to run zombies again. his stats are less than impressive, only able to tango with Sangan and live, but as always, it's the effect that counts. He does have two effects, but the effect of milling your opponent's deck when he inflicts damage is not very appealing. Your opponent will often WANT you to do that, giving them access to their power cards. But when he is destroyed, you get a Zombie from your deck to your hand with a DEF of 1200 or less.

This effect does exclude Pyramid Turtle, but the ability to get Zombie Master easily is a blessing. You really do need the Master in the modern zombie based deck, both to get things started as well as continue the aggression. This little guy has all but replaced Pyramid Turtle because of that fact, but I think it is more likely that top players want their decks all blinged out with Secret Rares rather than a super, or common.

Ed Tuesday - Goblin Zombie

Today we're reviewing a card that has received an exceptional amount of attention in the past few weeks because of its great uses in Zombie decks. For one, Goblin Zombie is the Zombie's Witch of the Black Forest. In case you don't know or weren't around when this card was legal, Witch of the Black Forest allowed so for multiple cards to be added to the hand that would cause the opponent huge problems later on in the game like Jinzo or Yata-Garasu. In Zombie decks, Goblin Zombie can search out numerous useful cards like Zombie Master, Il Blud, and Spirit Reaper. Goblin Zombie has the potential to speed up a Zombie deck by a lot, and it can also help the deck to work itself out of multiple problems that might arise. Overall, Goblin Zombie wouldn't be included in a deck other than Zombies, but when it is included in a Zombie deck, it can create devastating results.

Traditional: 1/5 - We have Witch here.

Pwii Ah man, I wish pojo had done something like the time the team had to interview shapesnatch and they all gave it a 5/5. But I guess today's card is a really good one...

Goblin Zombie was just released in the new dark deck. On the subject, that deck is the best place to get cheap ddv, orc, and this. This can search out IL blud, or Diabalos King of the Abyss. This is a must-have in all zombie decks, and turbo is no exception

5/5 any zombie deck anywhere anywhen

Tuesday April 1st:  Goblin Zombie

Happy April Fools everybody!

Today and for the rest of the week, we'll be reviewing some of the OCG cards that made their way to Phantom Darkness.  Today's review is on Goblin Zombie.  Goblin Zombie is the latest of the best supports Zombies need.  Having a low 1100 ATK, Goblin Zombie can mill the top card of an opponent's deck whenever it does Battle damage.  When Goblin Zombie is sent from the field to the graveyard, you can search for a Zombie with 1200 or less DEF and add it to your hand

GZ's current targets (or best thereof) are Zombie Master, Il Blud, Spirit Reaper, Vampire's Curse, and itself.  Now one could make an argument on how its better to search it to the field in the case of Pyramid Turtle, but that strategy has seperate flaws.  At times its better to have that Zombie laying in your hands and adds as additional tutoring support alongside Pyramid Turtle

Too bad its a secret.  I would run 2 at most

Rating:

Trad: 2.5/5 (Whether Zombies see play in Trad is unknown to me)

Advanced: 5/5

Until Next Time
