Dark Paladin
Monday

Well, we continue looking at Phantom's Darkness cards this week, and we begin the week with The Dark Creator.

As you might have guessed, Dark Creator has stats similar to The Creator...both being Level 8 monsters of the Thunder type who have 2300 attack and 3000 defense. Now, despite what this review may say, Dark Creator isn't a bad card.

Let's start by looking at the attack...2300 for a Level 8 isn't going to cut it. The New Ban List was just announced, and Monarchs, among other things aren't going anywhere. 2300 attack isn't competitive enough to be a solid Deck.

However...3000 defense is more than solid, yet keeping a defense position monster on the Field for an extended amount of time isn't the easiest thing to do in the game either...especially with cards like Shield Crush and Enemy Controller roaming around.

Next, let's talk about summoning. Obviously, Dark Creator could only be summoned in the mid to late-game, as he requires at least five Dark monsters to be in your Graveyard before he can be Special Summoned.

Then, each turn, you can remove from play a Dark monster from your Graveyard, to Special Summon a separate Dark monster from your Graveyard. Dark Creator isn't bad...really, he isn't. It works well with most of the Dark Decks you can build now, but he just isn't competitive enough.

In short, Dark Creator < 2400 attack powerhouses...but still NOT bad.

Ratings:

Traditional: 1.5/5 Not bad, but I see NO use for Dark Creator here.

Advanced: 3.0/5 I can't over-emphasize that it is NOT bad, but it
can't hold off the Divine Monarchy, among others.

General Zorpa The Dark Creator

This guy was initially hailed as one of THE cards of Phantom Darkness, yet Houston's SJC showed no sign of the almighty's alter-ego. This is simply because he was deemed too slow. Dark Armed Dragon and Dark Nepthys both only require 3 DARK monsters to be in the graveyard, while Dark Creator needs 5. However, this powerhouse is definitely worth the time it takes. You remove any DARK monster to Special Summon a DARK monster from your graveyard (Dark Armed Dragon is not a viable target for revival). At that count you have 3 DARK monsters in your graveyard, enough for either Dark Nepthys or Dark Armed Dragon, and you have another 2 monsters on the field when the Dragon clears off your opponent's field.

It is hard enough to get 3 monsters in the graveyard, but generally you can wait for 5. The non dedicated DARK decks that saw play at Houston did not have the correct amount of DARK monsters in order to make this guy work. They ran things like Card Trooper and Stratos, which helps out the Dark Armed Dragon, but not the Creator. Definitely one of the best cards out there, but only in a dedicated DARK deck.

The Dark Creator

DARK           Level 8

ATK/2300 DEF/3000

Thunder/Effect

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special

Summoned, by having 5 or more DARK monsters in your Graveyard while you

control no monsters. Once per turn, you can remove from play 1 DARK monster

from your Graveyard to Special Summon 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard.

From Rare to Secret Rare…The Dark Creator seems to be Crystal Seer of the set.

When I looked at the spoiler list of PTDN, I considered Dark Armed Dragon (hey, you can spell DAD!) to be too limited – exactly 3 DARK monsters?  You can only use Strike Ninja, Bazoo the Soul-Eater (unsearchable) and Skull Lair to manipulate!  The Dark Creator, on the other hand, was similar to Cyber Dragon, with added effect.

Until I looked at Shonen Jump.

Prometheus, King of the Shadows practically said:

    if (int numDARKinGraveyard != 3)

    {numDARKinGraveyard = 3;}

Sorry for my random attempt at AP Computer Science…anyway, Prometheus can set up a big play – remove Dark Magician of Chaos/Jinzo/Darklord Zerato, Special Summon Dark Armed Dragon, clear the field, and Dimension Fusion/Return from the Different Dimension for the win.

Soul Release also made a surprising appearance, manipulating the user’s DARK count as well as opponent’s graveyard.  I am personally surprised that UDE did not limit Dark Armed Dragon to 1.  What the heck, it even rivals Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning…

Back to The Dark Creator.  Ahem.  The point is, while Dark Armed Dragon can make an incredible push (3 or MORE cards (of ANY type) destroyed for FREE?) in one single turn, The Dark Creator cannot be as explosive as the Dragon, since one can only activate its effect once per turn.

An ideal target for this card would be Dark Magician of Chaos, Jinzo, or Disk Commander.  However, there are so many D.D. Crows flying around to really benefit.

Well…The Dark Creator is Level 8, so it works with Trade-In.  One must further dedicate the deck around this card though, because “3 < 5.”  And we do not like building a deck around a certain card (excluding Magical Explosion).  There are exceptions, of course.  This is not one (darn you, Dark Armed Dragon at 3).

Traditional:  4/5    Believe it or not, this card can do so much more (Graceful Charity, Painful Choice…)

Advanced: 3/5    Hide in the shadow of Dark Armed Dragon

Master Tricks
The Dark Creator
We start off the long week with the dark, sinister version of the renowned "The Creator", now transformed into "The Dark Creator". Personally, I love this card because I actually pulled one from buying a box from a local hobby league and can really turn the duel around if you have the right amount and kinds of Dark monsters in your graveyard. Here are the pros about The Dark Creator and how you should or might use it in your future decks:
  1. A Level 8 monster so you can use Trade-In on it to draw 2 cards if The Dark Creator isn't necessary for your current position in the duel. I recommend not to use Trade-In on it, but that's up to you duelists.
  2. A Dark monster so you can use Allure of Darkness to draw 2 cards and remove this card from play in your hand to keep your hand. I also recommend not doing this since The Dark Creator cannot be normal summoned, set, or special summoned except by when its in your hand and you have 5 or more Dark monsters in your graveyard.
  3. Has a decent 2300 ATK/3000 DEF to take down Cyber Dragon, kamikaze with Dark Red Enchanter when it has 2 or less spell counters on it, and any other cards with equal or less ATK than it. You can also just play it in DEF position to be safe from almost any monsters' attack.
  4. Can be special summoned to the field when there is 5 or more Dark monsters in your graveyard, which is always good since free special summons are always good.
  5. Once per turn, you can remove a Dark monster in your graveyard to special summon a Dark monster from your graveyard.
  6. Use the effect mentioned in "5" to special summon powerful monsters such as Dark Nephtys who can then destroy 1 spell or trap on the field after special summoned, Dark Magician of Chaos who can grab a spell in your graveyard into your hand, Jinzo to negate opponent's threatening traps, Darklord Zerato for Monster Destruction and power, OR special summon useful monsters such as D-Hero Disk Commander to draw 2 cards from your deck.
  7. You can use The Dark Creator's effect mentioned in "5" and combo it with Card of Safe Return to get a powerful or useful monster onto your field and draw a card from your deck.
  8. If you special summon D-Hero Disk Commander onto the field with The Dark Creator's effect mentioned in "5" while Card of Safe Return is on the field, you get to draw 3 cards instead of 2 and then you can tribute the D-Hero as tribute fodder for Jinzo, Raiza, or the new Caius the Shadow Monarch.
  9. Use the effect mentioned in "5" to remove a powerful monster to special summon a powerful/useful monster and then use Escape from the Different Dimension, Dimension Fusion, Return from a Different Dimension, D.D.M. - Different Dimension Master, or the future card in the Dark Emperor structure deck "D.D.R." to special summon the powerful monster to have a chaotic dark army on your field.
  10. Use Card Destruction, Morphing Jar, Foolish Burial, Armageddon Knight, Magical Merchant, or the new "Hand Destruction" found in the Jesse Anderson Duelist Pack to dump and fill your graveyard with Dark monsters to get out your Dark Creator faster.
This card is a great card and will definitely being seeing play in the next future Shonen Jumps and will dominate in it's own deck. If you have a deck idea about the Dark Creator, please feel free to send your decklist idea to me at pathoon@aol.com and I'll see what I can do to it to make it better. I also really want a good deck that incorporates around this card well and efficiently.

Traditional: 3.25/5 (Can work well in a format of Dark and Chaos cards)
Advanced: 4.75/5 (Would be 5 if only it didn't require that many Dark monsters to special summon it.)
Art: 4.25/5 (Nice!)
COTP Monday:
The Dark Creator

This card is interesting, to say the least. It made its way into one (and only one) of the SJC Houston Top 16.

The 5 monster requirement is similar to Avarice, and even with support cards like Armageddon Knight will take a couple of turns to set up. The nice thing is that it sets you up to take two Darks out of your Graveyard. If you drop it when you have exactly 5, you can remove a Dark (down to 4), to Special Summon another (down to 3). You now have the number of Darks in the Graveyard necessary to summon Dark Armed Dragon.

That is a huge swing play, letting you essentially swarm the field and clear the opponent's field at the same time. However, given the SJC lists, I think we'll be seeing way more of just DAD than we will DAD + this.

3.25/5

Iello, I hope I'm not late. ah well, todays card is the dark creator.

When i first saw this card I thought it was pretty good. then I saw the text reading '...when you have no monsters on the feild...', and remembered the fact that you had to remove to summon. That combined with the fact that it has only 2300 atk pretty much sealed it's fate.

1/5 all.
